    Toys Mom threw away ?

I got him on the same Christmas I got my Death Star . My last mego. A magnetic hands Batman.

Last I saw him he was on the hotwater heater. Never could get her to at least ADMIT what happened.

I can't really say what my mom threw away, but I have a couple of garbage bags full of stuffed animals and pre-toddler things that are about to go to St. Vincents. You gotta do the annual holiday cull, or there is no room for the new.

My mom never threw toys away. Once a year, usually before Christmas, we went through my toys together and I decided what I could part with. It could usually fill up a box that got sent to the Salvation Army.

I can barely talk about it. Back in the mid 80's my mother went through the basement and did some spring cleaning. That "cleaning" claimed a MINT (still in the shipping bag) Mego Iron man shipped from Heroes World and still in the shipping box. No telling what that would be worth today. Several Adventure team Joes in their box bit it, as well as an AHI Frankenstein and Dracula. Oh and a good portion of my Six Million Dollar man stuff one mint Mego Green Arrow. I have never entirely recovered. Epecially from the Iron Man loss. I know the money on that puppy would be unreal. Fortunately I had pulled alot of that stuff just days before hand and had placed it in my closet. Obviously I missed a few items...

To double the insult, my parents sold all of my original GIJoe's and then shared the "good news" that they used the money to redecorate my former bedroom into a sewing room. JOHN

My mom gave my nephew my Shogun Warriors Godzilla, and then my sister must have given it away or threw it out, because it disappeared.

I think I actually gave away an entire box of my GI Joes a few years ago, and totally wiped the memory from my mind. I went through everything last year, and couldn't find this one last box. It had stuff that had either broken parts or vehicles I didn't like as much, and I vaguely remembered taking it to the local Goodwill during Christmas a few years back after my mom reminded me.

I seriously thought someone had broken into their garage and stolen the box. My mindset at the time I did it was "I'm not collecting anymore, and since these are not mint, I'll make someone happy and give them away" which became "Where the hell are my Joes!!! I can find all of the broken parts now and fix them!! I gave them AWAY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Old clothing that I didn't fit into anymore...yes. Toys, no..unless it was a discussion about what could be moved out. I was very lucky that my mom didn't toss without asking. Even though she technically owned it because she bought it, that respect went a long way during my upbringing.
                          It's all good!

My dad threw all of my old toys away too, in one giant fateful swoop.

When I was 16, he kept threatening to me that I needed to go through all of the boxes that were in our downstairs storage room, and decide what I wanted to keep because he was going to clean it all out and throw away whatever I didn't want. I tried explaining to him that the boxes with my stuff in them were ALL keepable. He seemed insistant that there was alot of "junk" in there that I didn't need and I should just do what he says. So I said sure fine whatever, and promptly blew him off.

Several weeks later, I went into the storage room to look for something and noticed that every single thing I had stored in there was gone. When I inquired to my mother about it, she told me that my dad had gone in there a short while back and tossed it all out. She said he assumed I had already sorted out everything I wanted to keep, and that everything in there was "trash". In those boxes were all of my childhood toys- Megos, Star Wars, Joes, Micronauts, Secret Wars, MOTU.....including all of my tour books from the concerts I had seen before then (this was in 1988). I lost just about every kind of "collectible" item I owned up to that point.

And what did he do once he cleared that room of my "junk"? Gradually proceeded to fill up the room again with more actual useless boxes of junk that noone cared about. So you can see it was really necessary to rid us of my stuff

A couple of years later I discovered the vintage toy collecting hobby and Toy Shop magazine and so forth, and set out to try and replace as much of those discarded toys as possible. I haven't even come close.
