    Giant Styrofoam Glider Airplanes

    Remember these ?
    Man, they were fun ...
They were really cheap .. like maybe 2 or 3 bucks ...
Sold in bins at the toystore in tall plastic baggies.
Measured maybe like 3 foot long with a 3 foot wingspan ...
Very easy to assemble in like a minute ... and they'd fly (glide) like the dickens.
They would break super-fast though ... You would have to repair them with toothpicks

Don't remember those big ones, but I did have hours of fun with the small ones

I had a Batman one and loved it, but mostly remember frustrating and failed toothpick repairs, yes.

I as well was a proud owner of the Batman one for an afternoon.

I used to have some of the bigger ones in the 80's. Worked great but the wings always fell off during flight.

I had one .. then when it broke ... I fixed it .... then it broke a few more times and I kept fixing in ... then one day ... my dad had a burn pile of brush that he needed to start on fire ... so I lit the plane and it had one last flight into the pile ... with it's tail on fire it crashed landed into the old Christmast tree that had been laying outside for about 3 months. Man it was cool ... yeah my dad let me play with fire ... but only when he was there to play right along with me lol lol lol

They still sell these in Toys R Us. Not sure they are made from the same molds or not, but they have big styrofoam planes.

Same idea as the balsa wood ones, but less build time and longer flight time. (When I was a kid my aunt used to build them balsa wood ones; which had a life expectancy of one flight. Maybe.)

Are you guys talking about the balsa planes with the windup elastic band propellers ?

They were neat but the elastic would always break too quick

I always had the little jet glider things that cost like a quarter.
Don't know how many of those I lost on the roof of the house. :D
