This 1978 Toy Fair ad for Peter Pan (Power) Records, tells us what we already knew as kids, in that they were awesome but it also gives us a look at some of the store displays used to market them:
Man, that display doesn't miss anything, Star Trek, Superman even Planet of the Apes! I wish this shot was in color.
Growing I don't ever remember a display this large for these things, it just didn't happen. Mostly I remember seeing book and record sets by the cash registers. If I seen something like this as a child, I imagine it'd set off some sort of alarms in my head.
I remember nagging my mom into buying me a Pete Pan/Power Records Batman album from our local grocery store. It was in a waist-high cardboard display. A nearby drugstore had them like that too. I scored a Superman album there.
I used to listen to these for hours. I taped some of them and cut out the between pages prompts and that also eliminated the flipping of the record.
The Planet of the Apes were my favorites but I was always mad they left out Conquest.

Man I love these! I have loads of them. I even have that songs from TV shows that is shown in the pic (Volumes 1&2). In fact, when I worked w/ the older kids, I used to quiz them on the themes and the one who guessed 3 themes would get a jelly bean! Too funny!
I feel ya on skipping Conquest of the POTA thing. But another thing I don't get is why the POTA movie record (album) also got book & record sets, yet the POTA TV series record, didn't, but they got 45s. I would have like to have seen the books based on the TV series album. (Did that make sense?)
Anyway, these are a lost art. Power/Peter Pan records RULES!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
I can still hear spiderman vs the dragonmen and the conquistador playing in my mind. My turntable broke last month, need another one.
Oh yeah, I still have that one.
But the one that keeps playing over and over in my mind is a Batman one. Can't recall the title offhand but it has Joker in it and at the end the joker jumps off the pier thinking he's going to swim away (escape) but it's low tide and he lands in mud and says, "Help me Batman. I'm stuck in the mud down here!"

HAAAA, that's awsome! I gotta get that one.
Wanted: Lincoln Dracula & Hunchback, AHI Male Creature, Remco Phantom, Ghost of Captain Kid, 8" Tomlands
The part that kills me the most about these book & record sets are the ones I don't have any more. I had the Marvel monster set. I know there was Frankenstein, Tomb of Dracula and Werewolf (I think) but can't recall the 4th one right now. My Grandma sold them at a yard sale while I was at school one day. I was so upset! I loved those!
I hid my POTA ones after that! I still have those and a few others (Batman, Spiderman for sure) and I picked up a Superman one a few years ago but have never played it.
I also have a few of the albums and 45s but I never connect those with Peter Pan. When I hear Peter Pan Records I always think of the book & record sets.
