    Kenner Super Powers

With the winding down on Mcfarlane Super Powers it's time to look back at the Original SP.

I just got in a well played with Kenner Delta Probe and Supermobile for around the cost of a new figure.

That Delta Probe is awesome-looking! I didn't know that existed.

(Back when Super Powers were released in 1984-85, I had abandoned buying action figures and had my first girlfriend. But then I saw them in, I believe, a local Longs Drug Store. They were so good, I ended up buying maybe a half dozen of my favorites, including: a Batman, a Green Arrow, a Martian Manhunter, a Brainiac, and a Cyborg, all on the DL when I was by myself. And all in the toy aisle of this random chain drugstore that happened to be walking distance from my family home at the time. It's one of those great regrets in the life of anyone who collects anything that, about 5 years later, I was in college and needed some quick cash to fund a night out in Tijuana. So I sold all my Super Powers (and other stuff) to a local used toy store (pre-ebay) for $90 quick cash. In mitigation, it was a memorably excellent night in TJ!)

As a result of the above, in my middle age, I have been a big buyer of the McFarlane Super Powers line. Probably my #1 favorite is the Blue Beetle Bug vehicle. Amazing. But I also really liked the Brainiac skull ship. I made a point to buy a vintage SP Brainiac, even if I had to glue back on his broken arm. And I have repeatedly put him in that skull ship and displayed him on my living room bookshelf (when I'm home alone) for a throwback afternoon!
