Rise of the Atomic Apeman! A New Collection from White Elephant Toyz

White Elephant Toyz is bringing back its “Atomic Apeman” toy line this summer with ten new 8″ figures that will be available this evening at 7pm EST. The characters, while inspired by 1970s “Dime Store” figure lines such as “Action Apemen” and “Astro Apes,” have their own distinct flavour and a high-quality bandless body. Several […]

    My order arrived this afternoon!

I will post some photos in a few days. From this new assortment of Atomic Apemen, I ordered the Nova-like 'Aura' and the vintage Mego soldier ape-like 'Mongo.'

I have the modern Mego Brent (in rags) and a Mutant Leader loose, as well as several loose modern Mego soldier apes. I'm interested to see how all these figures look juxtaposed together. In my mind, I hope to mix them together to recreate a scene from Beneath the Planet of the Apes, in the spirit of the 'silly montage' portion of the 'Mint Off Card' videos from the Brick Mantouth You Tube channel. But we'll see if I can, ultimately, pull that off.

I also have several Super Joe Unlimited commanders by White Elephant Toys that now have vintage Super Joe blaster vests as well. I'm interested to see how these new Atomic Apemen figures look with those modern Super Joes as well.

Here are a few photos, as I previously promised. Unfortunately, I am a notoriously terrible photographer, my glass table is a terrible place to stage photos like these, and my 'diorama pieces' are always minimal; made from only 'found materials,' stuff from Dollar Tree, paint, and glue. Hopefully, despite these limitations, these photos will still give you a good sense of what these new figures look like in real life.

I was surprised by how well the Atomic Apemen figures scaled with the modern Mego PotA figures.

Two of the photos are my attempt to stage a scene reminiscent of one from Beneath the Planet of the Apes. (Staircase made from white Dollar Tree foam circles, painted and glued together; made originally a few years ago as a Throne Room for the White Elephant Toyz' Darkon.)

The other two photos are of a minimalist 'ape watchtower' I made from bamboo from my yard and a whole bunch of little cardboard cylinders I collected over time (they're at the center of each roll of my dog's 'poop bags'), painted with $1.25 brown paint from Dollar Tree.

Using a couple White Elephant Super Joe's that I have (modified with vintage jumpsuits and vintage power vests - one of the two has a White Elephant flocked head - exactly what I had really wanted as a kid for my vintage Super Joe), I tried to stage a scene somewhat reminiscent of the 1970s PotA live action TV show.
