As far as I know, Peter Potamus never had a whale as a sidekick. He had SOSO, the chimpanzee, who always seemed a bit more on the ball, then Peter. My lone braincell tells me their was one episode that involved them tangling with a whale. Probably a Riff on Moby Dick.
