These were w/o a doubt the COOLEST prize ever. I still have 2 of them from childhood (Jackson 5 and Sugar Bear). I wish I had my others (Josie, monster sounds), but I have managed to get more of my Archies, as well as Bobby Sherman, and another J5.
I had totally forgotten about those license plates! I don't remember many of the specific prizes that I got in cereal boxes, but I do remember having a couple of the license plates. It seems like for a while some of the cereals had little smurf-like figures (Cookie Crisp in particular seems to have had the cop and the cookie crook - I think I fed Cookie Crisp to my dog so that I could finish off a box in one week ). I remember Nestle Quick had M.U.S.C.L.E. figures in the chocolate milk for a while (for those of you who don't remember them, those were strange little pink wrestling figures that were popular around the time of Hulkamania).
My mom would never let me have the fun, sugary cereals. If I wanted a prize, my only hope was to find it in Life, Chex, or Cheerios. I do remember the license plates, and those were a hit with me. In my neighborhood, there was a year or two where we all "souped up" or bikes as much as we could. Turn signals, horns, generators, spokes, etc. The license plates fit right in.
You know that's what determined which cereal you were going to beg for at the supermarket. I remember perusing the boxes to see which one had the best prize inside. So what do you think was your favorite thing you ever got inside a cereal box?
There was a lot of great stuff, but I'm going to go with the balloon car. They worked and they worked pretty well compared to some of the stuff they were giving away-
For some reason, the later version of these were always a big favorite, too.
