    Alien Attack playset (1983)

Firstly I apologize for the amount of pictures as this may load slow for some of you.

Does anyone else own or remember these playsets from 1983? These showed up for a while at KayBee toys and other retail outlets. I am pretty sure a total of three sets were made, one with knights and monsters, one space themed (shown below) and one with regular army men.

This appears to have been made by a small toy company named Toyco that was both in Canada as well as the US, hence the dual language listings for each side of the box.

Just like the old playsets from the 50’s, this comes in a cardboard carrying case with 60’s type of art drawn on the cover. The box designs looked quite nice. Inside you get a playmat, some cardboard scenery and some toy figures. One side of this box (cover and true side panels) was in English. The other sides had the same graphics but in French. The box laying down on one side (cover side) is only 3.5” high

Many of you will find this one interesting because it comes with total scaled down versions of Colorforms Outerspace men as the aliens. I am assuming Colorforms never made them this small in scale and if so then whomever did design this paid attention to quite a bit of detail with them The astronauts that come with this are the type you can buy in bag down the same aisle as toy army men.

The sets sold for $8.00 which was kind of pricy considering how little you do get. The Knights set they had was also cool because it came with slightly larger smog monster like red lava men the Knights were supposed to fight

I loved not so official playsets like this. I am still on the search for a similar set with Knights and Dragons that came with a red version of Tricephalon from the Godzilla vs Tricephalon playset from H.G. Toys

Plastic army men figures of the Colorforms aliens!? So awesome!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I totally had this! Thanks for posting it, I've wanted to hunt it and it's D&D counterpart down.

Got it at some drugstore, that had a whole endcap of them in '83.

Actually it was this set that reacquainted with the Colorforms Outerspacemen. Once I opened this set I was looking at the Aliens. It was just one of those things as I was only 10 at the time when I kept saying:

"I know I have seen these before they look so familiar", but just could not place it at all. Like it was a fragment of my then young mind of seeing them somewhere many years earlier.

Of course with no internet and the only toy research being magazines and books (as well as word of mouth), it was not until the 90s when I picked up a book having the Outerpsace men and then everything came together. I know I never owned them so I must have either seen them or knew someone older that had the Outer space men.

                Palitoy,
I wish I could help you more with the knights set. I can do one thing though, I do have the lava men and some of the kinghts as I used them for extra pieces with the old Crossbows and Catapaults game. I can dig some of them out and post pics here. Actually the Knights set came with demon things too. Will see what I can dig up

                Acroray,
thanks for the link, will do just that

                      Thanks Mike!

                      Palitoy,
I will meet you half way. Long story short my Crossbows and Catapults game is buried under a number of other items so fishing out the blue knights is a no no. However I did find 3 of the monster/demon things they fought in this set. I put the army man in the pic for size reference.--

update: just found this on ebay, here are the figures from the Kinghts set:

That's amazing! Are those hard to find? I bet there's probably a good bit of demand for the guys that look like Outter Space Men. I know I'd love to have them!

The alien figures are fairly easy to find these days- they were re-released a few years back and are still in many toy stores. They were sold in sets and as single figures. They were produced and sold with small copies of the Space Shuttle and Thunderbirds spaceships and were all painted silver/gold/red. I bought several and repainted them like the original figures.

For some reason they never released Astro Nautilus is the smaller format, though, and none had the helmets, obviously.
