Maybe Not Halloween... But Its Candy!

With all this candy floating around, I started thinking about the candy I loved as a kid that's not around anymore. Do you remember the candy that came in a garbage can? They were like sweet tarts, but not so tart. Each was shaped like a different piece of trash- a fish skeleton, a shoe, etc. Below is a newer version that's also no longer in production, but mine looked pretty much the same.

There was another version with bones and bats and the like in a coffin.

What was your favorite candy that's gone the way of Mego?

I remember buying tons of those Giant Sweettarts. I don't know if they still make those or not.
I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that I loved that they don't make anymore. I think most things are just harder to find (i.e. not as popular) now, like Clark Bars.

Good n' Fruity (not to be confused with Good n' Plenty). You could only buy the little boxes of them at Halloween. I haven't seen them in years now.

What about Wacky Wafers? Do they still make those? I loved the banana.

How about the Marathon Candy Bar?

            Or Gold Rush Gum?

            Yes, I have many cavities.

I loved those Wacky Wafers, too, Bill!

Remember those wax "containers" (often just a plain tube shape ...other times shaped as a bottle or something) that you would bite the top off of and there would be a "kool-aid" type liquid inside? I enjoyed those.

I also loved the little 3-packs of SweetTarts, Pixie Stix and Candy Cigarettes, as well.

U.F.O Candy: non-memorable candy balls that came in a plastic 'flying saucer'. There was a little Millenium Falcon-style boarding ramp that opened to let the candy out, or you could take apart the two halves of the saucer- inside the top half was a sticker with info on a 'real' UFO sighting.

Yes! Those were the garbage cans for my Star Wars figures! My favorite ones were the gray ones, but I think they had yellow, red and blue also.

Those were AWESOME! I wonder if I still have my trash cans and coffins in my parent's basement somewhere. I can't imagine that I would have thrown them away. There were also lockers that came with candy shaped like school books, dirty socks, etc. Those were the lockers for my Star Wars figures! They interconnected and I had a whole row of them in red and blue!

The skeleton candy is available again in a slightly different form:

I picked up my set at my local Walgreens, buried in the Halloween section.
