    AHI Super Monsters on Sale!

I've uncovered a few sales ads for the AHI "World Famous Super Monsters" one of the more prolific and collectable Universal licensed items produced in the 1970s. The one is from K Mart in 1976, where apparently the line is getting closed out, it's also a Valentines day sale, weird...

Here's another clearance ad, not only for the Monsters but for the other AHI lines like their "Action Apemen" and their generic Western figures.

This is a great ad from "Hecks" featuring an image of Frankenstein and the Wolfman, it also mentions the Creature (Drool) and "The Ape Man". Mego really brought out the lawyers fast on that one.

Ah the creature makes a rare appearance in this ad, it's the male version. At $1.44 you could put me down for at least a gross of each, if not more, these guys are some of the best rack toys ever made.

This ad from 1976 is noticeably missing the Creature.

Man oh man, I wish I could go back and grab a bunch of those, not even because of their current value and all, but just because I think those figures were some of the coolest monsters ever made.

Ooooh, and in my mind's eye, I know exactly what aisle and shelf they would be hanging on in relation to the lunch counter at the ol' Kresge's of my childhood. Time Machine needed, indeed.
                It's all good!

seeing stuff like that hurts, even though I wasn't around. But it reminds me of when Star Wars were 2 for a $1 at KB toys

I used to go to Heck's in Georgetown, KY a few times a year. It was a lot like Hill's. Had a nice toy dept.

I'd be all over those monsters for that! I never saw them in the store. They were all dried up by the time I got into action figures.

I think those ads are so disturbing.A little piece of me aches in pain when I see those kinda prices.I guess I should have started delivering papers about 6 years sooner.

It kind of makes me wonder if 20 years from now, kids of today will regret not picking up toys (or whatever) today. I doubt there's much from the early 90s that will ever be worth much more than sticker price since it seems like there was such a huge speculating market in comic books and toys at the time. I know I have about 5 copies each of a bunch of worthless comic books from that time.

But I wonder if by now we've passed that and 20 years from now kids will be saying, "Man, I wish I picked up that Green Arrow figure when it was only $12! I'd take 20 of them!" Probably not - after all, nostalgia won't ever be as good as it was in the 70s looking back at the 50s and 60s. Today's nostalgia pales in comparison to THAT nostalgia! As my quote says, "Nostalgia just ain't what it used to be!"

Truthfully, I have to say I think I would have walked right past all of them back then. Of course today no way.
