    Monster Model Day

A tradition in my house every October is Monster Model day, where I get the kids together and we paint a couple of Aurora reissues and use them as our centerpiece for the month. Above is last years, I had a lot of trouble finding kits locally so I actually bought this years kits when I first saw them in July and I'm glad I did, they sold out quick!

This year I chose these Revell reissues of Dracula and Frankenstein, my daughter actually hugged her Dracula kit box when she saw it, a big hit. The deal is, I do the gluing, they do the painting, occasionally helping with tough stuff like the eyes.
I've put together Frankenstein before and it's amazing that the molds are still holding up! My compaints are the same as they were 16 years ago when I put together the Illuminators versions, it's tough to make the guy stand properly and I had issues with the jacket but it was no big deal.
Dracula's headsculpt looks different somehow but I really ended up liking it, I'd love it if it ended up on an action figure again the way AHI did them.

Viola! Not bad considering they're four and seven, they even learned the magic of "Dry brushing" from their dad. What I found most interesting was the amount of blood the kids put on the characters, I guess some things never change. Next year I think we'll do the creech and wolfman or maybe the phantom..

Way cool, Brian! And I see the B movie victims are horrified at your latest creations! And your kids did a really good job of painting them!

Tell the kids they did some great work.

            Great tradition you have there.

And for the record, yes Revell changed the head sculpt on Dracula.

And they will also be repopping the Creature, so you should be able to find them easily.

I picked up that Frankenstein reissue earlier this month. I go on vacation on Halloween and I plan to build my first model in 30+ years that week

That is an awesome tradition Brian. I've been meaning to get my Revell Batman and Robin Aurora reissues out and let Andrew have a whack at them.

Your kids did a fantastic job! I'm very impressed.

Oh, and Dracula's head looks different from the Revell reissue I got in the 90s. I think mine has the original head mold. I take it this is a recent change?

Now that is a really cool tradition. I may have to steal that when my kids get older.

What store are yall finding these at? I was in my local hobby store last week and they only had the Moebius stuff. I'm sure they could order them for me but it would be nice to actually have them in hand before Halloween. We have a Hobby Lobby that is a bit of a drive, their website doesn't show there inventory and in the past I've had bad luck trying to get somebody to help me on the phone when I was asking if they had something in stock on the shelf.

                          Thanks, Mike

Update: Took a chance and called Hobby Lobby and they don't have them.

                            Yeah, very recent.
It's new for this current reissue.

Some K-Marts are stocking the Monsters. I found my Frankenstein in the toy section of the K-Mart in Bowling Green, KY.
                              George
Thanks George, I have one of them close enough to try tomorrow.

Update:Got me the Wolfman at $17.99, he was the one I was looking for, I already had reissues of the others, first Wolfman I've ever had, looking forward to trying that dry brushing technique. There was only 1 Frankenstein left on the shelf when I left, all others were already gone. Thanks Again George.
