One of my vintage Halloween toys-Emerald The Witch doll

EMERALD WITCH the boo VINTAGE in with BOX original DOLL - eBay (item 350082458628 end time Nov-15-09 16:24:06 PST)

Though this isn't the exact photo of my doll, this is Emerald The Witch doll, was made by Girls World, an offshoot of Milton Bradley, in 1972. Though it was a Halloween toy, I got it for Christmas, when I was 6. This doll's claim to fame was that her eyes could light up when you shook her w/ the help of a penlight battery. Sadly, b/c these dolls didn't sell that well, hundreds of them were destroyed, except for a few that were sold to private sellers which is why they go for so much on Ebay. I sure am glad I kept mine, though she doesn't work anymore, and has lost her hat and shoes. I think it's criminal that these dolls were destroyed instead of being donated to charity.

I know this is a girl's toy, but did anyone have a sister or cousin who owned one? Or did you ever hear of this doll?

I've known about her for a long time but never had one. I think she is wicked cool. I love classic Halloween themed toys.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I saw a picture of her online a few years ago and immediately wanted one. I searched and searched for an affordable one with no luck, one day maybe, I'm always keeping a lookout.

That pic looks like someone stuck a mini flashlight in her head. She never lit up like that, her eyes just flickered. There's a little piece of metal in the battery compartment on a spring that taps the battery when you shake her, so that her eyes will flicker.

That's an odd, but very cool toy there.

Well, I was hoping it would light up like that, made me think of one of those glow worms you squeeze and he lights up kinda like a night light. I've never seen one in person, someone probably just fixed that one up for the photo. I'd still like to have one whether it worked or not.

Mike, that photo is pretty damn cool! If the Mad Monsters had been made to do that, they would have been even more awesome than they already are!
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

Then after the light went off their eyes would be charged to continue glowing until they faded out. That would be awesome!

That pic makes her look demonic. I doubt my mom would have got her for me if she really did that!
