Creepy Crawlers Thing Maker 2 Commercial

Mattel relaunched their popular Thing Makers from the 60s in a new version that wouldn't permanently scar you (seriously I know people with scars).
This commerical from our DVD is kind of bittersweet for me, the happy part is realizing that it's narrated by Jackie "Uncle Fester" Coogan. but I'm also reminded how quickly I was shot down by my folks when asking for one of these. I'd have made a real mess of things, so I forgive them...

I've done Creepy Crawlers w/ my class. We've even put them in our own goopy stuff called Pud. (cornstarch, water and food coloring) Waay fun!

I think it officially belonged to my sister, but we had one of these in the 70s and loved it. It was cool to make your own toys!

I have a fuzzy memory of my sisters and I having some sort of monster maker thing with a very distinctive smelling liquid or rubber used. I'm guessing it must have been this. I would love to get another wiff to be sure.

I had the Peanuts & Snoopy Thing Maker version of this. I use to sell pieces I'd made to the neighborhood kids for a nickel back in the day. Pretty fun if you asked me.

I had and loved the orginal Thing Maker back in the 60s. Creativity ... fun ... and danger -- all in one package. The 2nd version was for wimps. What's a little burning and scarring when you got to make your own rubber bugs? I'll take the orginal Thing Maker ... and the original Strange Change Machine ... over their 'safer' successors any day! (just be sure to send over some burn ointment!)

Didn't have this one as a child, but I did pick up the "safer" version in the 90's. A fun toy and mine still works. As long as I can find more goop.

I have both of Brian's DVDs too. Top marks in my book. Great stuff to watch on Saturday mornings. Hope you can produce another dozen or so volumes.

I got this Thingmaker 2 when they were clearanced and the creepy crawlers I made with this version were always sticky and basically tore apart with handling. This version the goop was solid and you had to heat it in that kettle to be able to squeeze it out of the bottle into the molds and then they just cooled in the plastic molds and they never cured right. Maybe there was a run of defective Thingmaker 2 goop and this is why they were clearanced but I never had any luck with that version.

I have a lot of the original 60's metal Thingmaker molds and have used them in the more recent ovens and had good luck. My favorite is the jointed skeleton mold.
