    1983 Remco Toys Catalog

By 1983, Remco had put down their utility belts and picked up some swords but never actually straying from their comic book licensing ties. Their long relationship with Marvel comics made them a natural to market the action figures based on their Crystar comic series , also announced were a series of figures based on Kazar that sadly, never materialized.

DC comics provided Remco the opportunity to combat Masters of the Universe in the form of the "Lost World of the Warlord" toyline based on the works of Mike Grell. The Universal Monsters (another long relationship for AHI and Remco) were still kicking and after years being seperated it seems that Remco/AHI finally became one in 1983 with the rack toy items finally being marketed in the Remco catalog.

Crystar rocked. The comic sucked, but the toys were cool. One of the many toy lines I would like to see brought back.

                    Hmmmm....

I liked the Crystar toys when I was a kid; but it always bothered me that the two main guys were so much taller than everyone else. (In the comic, Bow was tallest.) I liked the comic too (*nyah!*) but I found it was pretty typical sword & sorcery stuff 'til about halfway through; when it kinda turned into a weird action/comedy sort of thing.

And I REALLY liked the mini-monsters; even though I'd only ever had the glow Creature. (Which I still have.) When they came out, we had prepped the garden in the back yard to be a sort of monster sanctuary: we divided it into six patches (each about 2m x 2m) one for each monster. Then we built appropriate settings, like an underground lab, rundown castle.... and I only ever found ONE monster for it!

                    *sigh*

Anybody notice how much the Taskmaster in the Warlord line looks like the Marvel comics Taskmaster?
