Speaking of race car track sets...

Y'know, with all the video games out now, you hardly ever see ads for race car track sets. Remember Tyco and Aurora? I never had anything other than my brother's Hot Wheels track, but it was fun going to my friends house who had brothers and playing w/ their sets.

So which ones did you have? What features did it have?

This was the last one I ever owned.

I was already grown up when I bought it new - but it was a bit of a guilty pleasure to play with

Wish I still had it today ........

Aurora AFX--Still drag it out once in a blue moon. I had a stunt set with jumps and teetertotter's and such. then bought a bunch of cars and track from a school chum who had to sell his. Tons of fun.

I had a Marx train set too, but it was a small set. Still had a barrel of fun with it in the day.

They still make quality race sets..and train sets, but they have become so expensive nobody but the hobby shops carry them anymore. Theres a larger than the old Tyco/Aurora race set out now..by a company called Carrera I think...that seems pretty popular with the hard core slot car folks these days. I have considered getting a set a couple of times, but the cost has always been a huge deterrent.Nice sets though, and the amount of different cars is staggering!

Wal Mart and TRU have some cheapie train sets and race tracks, but nothing like the old Tyco, AFX, Marx or Lionel sets anymore.

I had at least 3. When I was a baby my Gramps bought me an Aurora Model Motoring slot car set and I still have that (he also bought me an HO train set of which I still have many pieces and the original GI Joe with the motorized Jeep & trailer, which I do not have). I also had a couple A/FX sets with those horrible slide-lock connectors on the tracks that always broke. My last set was a TCR set and I wish I'd have kept that one.

I had many Tyco sets over years but they always ended up broken sooner than later. I also had a Bandai set in the 80's that was a little Different. " The Super Hyper 4WD ". It was a blue track that you would build model cars that ran on batteries. I actually loved that set and building those cars.

I never had a slot car track but remember going and racing cards at the local slot car parlors that popped up everywhere back in the late sixties. They were incredibly popular at the time and had these amazing custom tracks with up to 10 lanes. Those places were awfully cool for a kid. For myself, I had the usual Hot Wheels tracks with Superchargers and my favorite, a Motorific Torture Track with a bunch of accessories. I would build these monstrous layouts all over the basement floor. Went through tons and tons of AA batteries - back before Alkaline batteries too. They didn't last long.

In 76' I got a star spangled set from Tyco where the cars had working headlights. It eventually died from all of the use, but it was fun. I think I bought 3 extra cars for that set until the track itself wouldn't work anymore.
                          It's all good!
