    Vintage Toy Stores Part Seven

A long standing tradition on my birthday as a kid was my Grandmother taking me to the toystore to pick out amy own gift. I honestly don't remember what I chose every year but I do remember those times when I was able to pour over the aisles of Eaton's or Pinnochio's with no pressure to leave. In fact, my seventh birthday I'm pretty sure I spent the better part of two hours in a toy department. It must be the reason that I like hunting for these vintage shots so much.

Our seventh edition of Vintage Toystore photos show cases everything from Socker Boppers to Aurora Monster kits to G.I. Joe dolls, it's a fun flashback to "pre walmart" days of toy shopping and features many a long since gone independant and local chain store.

OK, I'm sorry but that raggedy Ann doll is just CREEPY!!!!
My sister had a life-size (kid size) one when we were kids and she swore it moved at night. It soon disappeared.
Now on the other hand that huge end cap of Aurora monster models almost brought tears to my eyes! I remember walking down the model aisle as a kid and seeing every single kit one after another on the shelf. This was the Glow-In-The-Dark era.

Now I love Raggedy Ann and Andy but that thing w/ the big head and little bitty feet would have totally freaked me out as a kid. In fact, it's kinda freaking me out right now!

          >that huge end cap of Aurora monster models almost brought tears to my eyes!

Oh yeah! Nuthin' like walking along a whole shelf of 'em! The box art was stupefying!

We had a few "Dominion Playworld" stores here when I was a kid, and they all stocked moel kits. The downtown one had thr Prehistoric Scenes; you'd walk in and the first shelves on the left were nothing but dinos. Mostly Aurora, with some Life Like thrown in for good measure. The one at the mall stocked the monsters. It was a weird store; very long and narrow, split down the middle lengthwise. The monsters were along the left, which was higher than the right, and kept dark. By the early 80's the downtown one was gone, and the one at the mall stocked Japanese kits; which was equally cool given the spectacular box art on those as well.

Monster Scene kits were available at a small mom & pop variety store by the old house. Small shelf, more cool boxes.

Hmmmm.... it's a shame nobody does cool box art any more.

I love this edition. I loved the game Headache as a kid. Wish they still made that. The Dinky display makes me drool.
            It's all good!

Of all the stuff I love about PS, I think it's these photos that keep me coming back the most.

              Pure gold nostalgia!

All those mint boxed Shoguns! Of the six standing up I think it goes Daimos, Daimos, Raydeen, Raydeen, Raydeen and Godzilla(?). I love the huge stack of Play-Doh too (second from the right) I think they are Fuzzy Pumper Barber sets.

What else can people make out?

That thing looks like something out of an 80's horror movie

boy, hard to make out almost anything in that pic. Looks like a newspapaer photo?
I see something Snoopy in the middle. Looks like"Snoopy's good grief glider"? but a search would nopt yield a pic. Closest thing I found was this Gabriel 1976 Snoopy flying toy. Looks pretty close the the ones on display. might date the pic to the mid-70's?

PS. Why can't I get ebay pics to post anymore??? Am I doing something wrong????
