    Crazy Cool Toy Websites

Thought I'd use Sunday to share some new links, be prepared to waste an afternoon on these because they're a lot of fun. First up is the newly launced FPLP Word, which stands for Fisher Price Little People, a line of toys that I am particularly fond of.
Scott, the site's webmaster really knows his little people, so the site is extremely comprehensive with lots and lots of fun photography. There is even a forum if you want to talk Fisher Price...

Also this week, toy creator Mel Birnkrant, who last dazzled us with his amazing Maxx Fx site has returned to tell of yet another 80s toy line he created Animax.
Mel gives another fascinating insider's look into the toy industry from initial concept sketches, prototypes, toyfair presentations right down to the final products. The story includes all the details, right to the hassles, arguments and sadly, the complete botching of what would have likely been a terrific toy line.
Even if you've never heard of Animax, you'll be sucked into the story behind them and while you're there, check out his wonderful pages about the creation of the Colorforms Outer Space Men. You'll wish Mel had created all of your favourite toys because these sites are just so rewarding to read.

Just a PS, this colorforms set (released years after the Outer Space Men were done) was one of the things that probably made me a toy collector in the first place. I spent hours staring at the box wondering the history behind these wonderful toys and where I could get them. Thanks Mel!

Cool. I'll have to check those out.
I've always had a soft spot for those little people. Once in awhile I run across a piece from the old sets and I can't bring myself to toss them out or in with the kids toys.

Wow! Thanks for the plug about my FPLP World website! I've still got a lot to do yet and considering I have no idea what I'm doing, it's taking me some time to get there. I don't know how Brian and Dave do all this stuff here. I hate it when I've spent a week working on one single page and somehow the formatting get's messed up... They say it's easy... I don't know who "they" are but I'm convinced "they" are trying to drive me insane... "No, I don't want a space there! Get out of there space!".... "Why are my pictures not centered now!" WHAAAAAAAAAAA I'm even afraid to fix that typo on that one page because I'm relatively certain if I hit the delete key my computer will explode.... geez!

So if something doesn't look right... it's not my fault I tell you!

Well, it certainly is looking good! From your post, I was expecting a lot of code problems, but the site looks just fine to me!

Just took a look at the Fisher Price Little People site. Looks great so far. Although I don't collect these, still fun to travel down memory lane.

Oh no... I could never handle doing HTML code. This is one of those non-HTML site builders which is supposed to be easy. I'm used to working with programs like MS Word which has a "show/hide" button so you can see where lines, spaces and formatting things are within a document. The site builder doesn't have the "show/hide" thing so it's like I'm fumbling in the dark. I type a paragraph or two and want to put a picture in and my formatting goes crazy. I take out a hardline page return and it puts it in somewhere else in the document. I would probably have the whole website finished by now if it weren't for having to go back and fix all these problems. Sometimes having to redo entire pages.

BTW - That Forum link above is no longer active. I decided to abandon that forum because it was basically "no frills" and have already set up a new one. So to the few of you that joined... please check your links and ... well rejoin if you'd like.

Most of those easy site builders add a bunch of extra code (that's what messes up centering and gives you spaces where you don't want them, etc.) - I was just expecting there to be a bunch of extra code causing problems on your site. I didn't look at the code, but if there is a bunch of extra stuff in there, it's pretty well hidden! The site looks good!

First time I've seen those Animax, they're neat and something I would have interested in as a kid.
