    Star Wars figures being sticky?

Okay i know several on here are huge Sw fans. So here is a question for everyone. I just bought a super cheap mint on card endor leia on jedi card. Well somehow it ended on the floor.."man was i mad" and it got stepped on and punched the bottom of the bubble out. well okay fine, i was putting together a mint loose collection as well. I didn't notice at first but a couple hours later i went to remove her gun and hat and her feet were sticky like someone poured honey on her but not quite as thick. More like a nice vermont maple syrup thickness. I have opened my share of Sw figs and i have never had this happen before. I cleaned her off and it is fine. No residue or smell. anyone else have this happen?

I've bought them loose where they're like that but never off the card, maybe the glue from the scotch tape the held the accessories

      It's probably the plastic deteriorating.

I've seen some like that and their feel is not much diiferent then a MIB 12" gray head Mego.

It's got that slimey feel that wont wash off no matter what you do.

I've got some like that from my childhood collection. I tried to clean it off, but as Mike mentioned, it does not come off.

          I've had several of those.
Some of them kind of "sweat", making them sticky.
Others get like a mouldy residue on their black parts, like original Solo's pants.

I read about this, and the advice was to remove it with soap and a cloth, and to be careful about not getting too much of it on your hands.

It definitely comes from the figures itself. My Luke needs a good clean every few years or so, same for Endor Leia and others.

Why do I feel like I'm writing some steamy novel....?

I've tried soap and cloth ...

            It doesn't work.

If it's the plasticizer leaching out (like green Mego heads) something water based like soap wont work.

Same with any other water based cleaner.

It's like trying to clean a paintbrush filled with oil based paint with water.

            It just don't work

joy dish soap works best, some are worse than others somtimes just soak them ... but then you have to watch out for paint apps. some times the oil makes the paint flake off easy.

I'd agree with Mike, it sounds like the same thing that happens to greying Mego heads. The chemicals are breaking down and being "sweated" out.

The chemicals are leeching out of the plastic try to move the figures to a cooler area.

                      Hmmmm....

They'll leech pretty bad where they contact the bubble too. When different kinds of plstic touch they can sometimes react.

it's pretty common. A good amount of my vintage SW figures have this problem and I had it happen with my LJN WWF wrestling collection as well....was still able to sell if off though

Thanks for all the info guys. You just helped me out a bunch. I went back and looked and it was from the bottom of her feet. I was going to use it in the mint loose collection but you can see where the paint has bubbled. It is hard but i am so picky with the loose figs. At least the rest is mint.
