trying to get toy id of whatever this thing was

I think something close to this was covered on the board before?
Many years ago (late 70's or very early 80's), I had a (believe to be) silver space-ish (but not really) toy like rifle. The thing is that something similar to a film projector was part of the toy. Like you had the gun and you look down the barrel (or eye piece) and would see pictures scroll by. On top of the toy was a round circle like thing (like a tray that rotated in a circle) that would project a film with frames showing pictures of like a generic ghost or frankenstein. The pics were all in white with a black background because you were able to project this onto a wall (though as a small image) in addition to seeing it through an eye piece.

This was a shooting game of some kind and as these cells (pics) went by you had to try and shoot them. I think this might have worked with air compression because I do recall that where you shot on the film would be a small hole. Eventually you would have to replace the film piece (which they sold alone). I remember trying to play with this without shooting because I could not get a replacement for it

the toy might have looked something like this wonderful piece of art below:

does this ring a bell with anyone?

Sounds similar in concept to the Ghost Gun, but you're obviously talking about something different.

Holy sh*t I think that might be it!

I still thought the gun was silver or white-sih? Perhaps the one I had was a knock off or more than likely my mind not recalling it correctly at all

      THANK YOU!

I do know though the strip did show more than just ghosts. Perhaps they made other strips to work with it?

Do you have a year for that?

Found various info online, but a nice box pic here with other toys some of you may like (inc a write up on Milky the cow!)

and this site below gives you a complete description on how this thing worked. Can't thank you enough Spacecrawler for finding this one for me

          >I still thought the gun was silver or white-sih?

There was a motorized one that was whiteish.

          >Perhaps they made other strips to work with it?

There were a bunch of different strips, each had multiple pics of one monster; but there were a few different monsters. (I remember a generic bullseye and a tree monster quite well.) I'd always hoped to find someone who'd posted pics of the different strips.

And I make a Mego scaled one:

I remember that! I had the Ghost Gun when I was little. Crazy cool toy.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Your mego scale one is great.
Thank you for confirming that I was not that off on the color. I had no idea two types of this existed. So then perhaps my memory is not that far off?

Was it also called ghost gun or did the motorized one go by a different name?

                  re

talk about right under your nose, When Don C mentioned a motorized one that was white (verifying my memory of it), I did a google search for motorized ghost gun toy and guess what came up from a blog on the front end here at plaidstallions:

I have a weird story about the Hasbro moving Monster Gun which projected pictures of Monsters on the wall. A school friend named Richard ha...

I can pretty much now say this must have been the one that I had. Reading about it, this also confirmed that at least on this version it did punch a hole in the actual film (something I read about the ghost gun version mentioned the whole went through a tracing paper type material and not the film strip)

                    >I did a google search for motorized ghost gun toy and guess what came up

That's it! It's the Ghost Gun with a motorized doohickey where the films feed in. (On the left.) It prolected a pic of a wall with monsters hanging over it, and you'd shoot as they went by.

                    >this also confirmed that at least on this version it did punch a hole in the actual film (something I read about the ghost gun version mentioned the whole went through a tracing paper type material and not the film strip)

The films were on a heavy tracing type paper, and the gun did punch holes in 'em. You'd hold the front part steady (by the mag) and the back end would move, changing your point of aim. When you pulled the trigger a small pin would punch a hole in the film. The extra contrast of the unfiltered light would look like a bullet hole.

Mine got played with a LOT when I was a kid. Once the filmstrips ran out I made my own by drawing on wax paper. Worked almost as good.

                    Don C.

the Toy was great and pretty innovative for the time. I used to play with that gun in my closet because even with the blinds drawn in my room it still let in too much light to truly use the toy

I did a quick look on ebay with no result. Something tells me this is an item that does not show up that often
