    SW 1978 Landspeeder

    I was wondering.
Did all original Landspeeders come with a pop-up hood?

When I see catalogues, I always see the pop-up (like the re-issue is), but my old one has a smooth hood, without that feature.

      Aha!
      Just found another on Ebay.
      Apparrently, it's the UK version:
eBay.be: Star Wars landspeeder vintage palitoy UK version (object 200369557639 eindtijd 12-aug-09 22:34:06 CEST)

They never pop the hood in the UK. They just buy a new one when broken....

There are many versions of the Landspeeder, and plenty of sub-variants of each. Generally speaking most had pop-open trunks, with notable exceptions being the Meccano and Palitoy versions.

Off the top of my head I can name Meccano France, Harbert Italy, Toltoys Australia (And Canada via Irwin Toys), Palitoy in the UK and of course Kenner in the USA as producrs of the Landspeeder.

This site has a good overview of the Canadian variants, it was one of the early Star Wars collecting sites, run by some good guys too.

          Cheers!

That's interesting. I would've never thought about there being different versions of the same toy. Perhaps things like this had to do with some kind of child safety standards in different countries?

He he not that many Cat :-)

I used to have "a few" but now I'm down to some loose Toltoys versions and my boxed Toltoys Special Offer example. I think there are only 3 or 4 of those known, it's a toughie!

                Cheers mate,

one of my all time favorite toys, i think it had to do with it being one of the first SW toys i ever had.

you also could have had the sonic landspeeder which didn't have the pop-up hood. That one is pretty standard on all makers really. The landspeepder, Xwing and others where standard stock for other countries. The variations are true to each countries designs. I have the regular, sonic and Palitoy. Always looking for others

Still looking for the sonic control Landspeeder.
It was my first vehicle, too, and a great design....
