    G.I Joe (12" line) question

I have one of the older 12" gi joe figures. I picked him up at a flee market in the very early 80's. He is in good shape with a general green camo outfit (beard and hair fuzz still in place). My question though is this doll has two right hands. It does not look like someone replaced it but possibly a factory screw up.

Was this common and do some collectors prefer this type of thing?

would you recommend having it fixed or just leaving the figure as is? Would the value (if any) decrease further from correcting this?

Mishaps like that happen all the time from Megos to Joes(allsizes) to captain action,if its loose change it to the correct hand if you wish ,it does not add to value of the figure.Because its easily changable.
if he had unpainted eyes that than would be worth something.

I'm sure a kid did it, it's very easy to pull it out and put the correct one in. The price won't make a difference because it's so easy to do

It's harder to remove a Kiss figures boot then it is to switch a Joe hand or foot

Yeah, this is likely something a kid did. In all my years of getting Joes as a kid I never found one with wrong parts (got plenty of screwed up Megos though, and EMCEs). But anyone who'd buy it would likely correct it anyway. Hands can range about $5-10 a piece if they are in good shape.

does the pin holding the hand in place just push out or is there some other method I should be aware of?

it just pulls out, just be careful cause they can break if you don't know how

thanks for the info. I need to get the correct hand first and then will take it from there

I never had 12" Joes as a kid, but I had quite a few Megos that came right out of the package with the wrong hands or feet and my 12" Spiderman was missing a hand completely when I opened the box. As a kid, I never thought to take stuff back to the store to exchange it, so I just used to pretend that my Spiderman missing the hand just shot webs out of the hole in his arm .

in my case I was very young when he was purchased at the flee market. I also knew not to play with him so away he went. It was not until a short time later that I even noticed the two right hands

Probably would not have bought him then if I knew, though the rest of his condition (inc outfit) were in really good shape

IF you choose to "correct" the mis match hand and don't want to detract from the value (what there is in a loose joe is most driven by accessories and hair loss for AT figures) you would need to find one is a similar plastic color (there are differences from one caucasion to another based on year produced and evne how much sun time the figure saw in the hands of kids before he reported for duty in your colleciton. Also the fact Joe has been in full scale general release reproduction for almost 20 years now has really brough down values of loose joes. Certain pieces and sets are valuable but the average AT doll itelf isn't

I will keep all that in mind. I probably would not sell him as it is the only one I own, but I would love to correct the hand
