G.I. Joe Real American Hero 1982 Catalog

I know it's technically not a 70s toy but it is related, plus these figures came out when I was eleven and had the distinction of being the last toys I bought to play with.
In fact, on my twelfth birthday my mom made me a G.I. Joe cake (as I've explained before, she was "cake lady" back in the day), knowing I was a fan of the comic. I think that might have been the exact moment (surrounded by friends) that I realized "Hey, maybe I should stick to Atari games now". That feeling hung around for a while, until I got into vintage in high school.

After the Adventure Team closed up shop in 1976 and Superjoe was lost in space by 1978, the G.I. Joe name rememerged in 1982, a good deal shorter but fueled by a surge in patriotism.
G.I. Joe was no longer a single man but a team name, returning to his military roots, Joe was a covert group that protected the world, as we would now discover, from the forces of Cobra.
By mass marketing the (well written) toy tie in comic with wonderfully animated TV spots, G.I. Joe became one of the biggest hits of the 1980s and it's popularity endures to this day. Click on the pictures to enjoy:

      SAY!

I just noticed something.... the Intruder's harness (from the Adventure Team Joes) looks a lot like the Super Joe harness.... Reversed engineered alien technology?

And I've always thought it was weird how Joe got smaller with each incarnation.

Those were some of the best figures ever created.

I was hooked as soon as I saw them.

The first one I saw was Snake Eyes.

Man he was one of the Coolest.

I have so many favorites from that line.

        I Love G.I. JOE RAH

1982 gave us Stalker, Snake Eyes, Scarlet, Rock N Roll, Breaker, Flash, Hawk, Grunt, Cobra Troops and Commander. plus the MOBAT and VAMP(my favorite of all time Joe rig)

The RAH was the first action figure line I collected, I have almost all of the 82-84 figures and soon plan on working on 85 and maybe 86

Cool cake, but I know that "I should stop playing with toys feeling".

I resisted RAH as long as I could. I was into MOTU and I still played with my Megos a lot (I didn't know the line was canceled, and Mego was mostly dead), and military stuff didn't appeal to me much. But then I saw the comic, and the TV spots, and the inherent coolness of it all pulled me in. I was soon big into Joe, and my friends and I would actually coordiante who bought what, and who was going to play what. RAH had to be one of the best toy lines with built in play value EVER.

I love these images. These 3.75" G.i.Joes display in action scenes like no others. I always loved this RAH line and still do as an adult. I love it so much I have a near whole collection of Loose / complete figures. ...... YO JOE !

I was hooked when I saw the first wave. I actually stumbled on the RAM bike in a K-mart, but couldnt find anything else. I bought it, brought it home and zoned out with the little fold out catalog. I had to have everything.
The second wave (with the great swivel arm battle grip addition) was ok too the line just started getting way too cartoony for me after that, with goofy characters and non-realistic vehicles.

Same here but I think it was due to my age as well, I wasn't the target demographic. My cousin who was six years younger got all my stuff after that, he hung on until they released "chuckles"....

yeah '84 and '85 are prob. the best over all for the comic and toon figures ... I was just at target and listening to a couple kids being super stoked about the Storm Shadow without the mask on figure ... made me think back to all the talks my friends and I had about what Storm Shadow, firefly and cobra commander really looked like lol

But those '82 figures hold a special place for me
