    Bop the Champ

I'm not sure I've ever seen one of these Mego Muhammad Ali bop bags surface in collectors circles before. Is it just me or does Ali look cool standing next to Batman? Maybe DC teamed him up with the wrong guy.

Man,check out that scowl on Batman's mug. It's almost like he's saying "touch me and you'll be dead."

That Bat-bop bag is odd. The artwork looks like it was done by the same guy who did that Corgi art where Batman looked like he floated away from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Odd that they wouldn't use the standard Carmine Infantino/Murphy Anderson hands-on-hips standing pose. Pretty sure I had a bop bag WITH that image, on yellow. Maybe this was a prototype?

Oh and maybe Batman's scowling because he put his belt on wrong?

Here's a better pic of the Batman bag....

Notice it doesn't match the artwork on the box...

Yeah, the box art looks better!

But I like it BECAUSE it's not the same ol' stock art shot we usually got. Bats looks honked-off and lumpy. And that bat-symbol is straight out of some toy package in 1966.

Multiple Toy Makers is the outfit that made those JLA sets in the late 60s, right?

A college friend actually found a Spiro Agnew version of this in a store in West Philly. It sat, abused, in his apartment for years.

I have a batman one from when I was a kid. The vinyl has started to degrade a little and get oily to the touch, so I have it along with most of my childhood still stored away. That one has the yellow background, too but the belt had a buckle that squeaks and batman's eyes were made of plastic and had a lenticular (sp?) feature where his eyes opened and closed. I also had the Popeye one in the picture, too. Also, wanted the Yogi Bear one, but never got one. I would have insisted on getting the Ali one if I had ever seen it back then.
