    Kenner Empire C3PO in baggie

Star Wars 1982 Empire Strikes Back Vintage Loose Action Figure - C-3PO with cape in Kenner Sealed Baggie - Hasbro - Toys Us

Mattel Secret Wars MOC Captain America

Vintage 1984 Marvel Captain America Action Figure - Mattel - Toys Us

Mattel Secret Wars MIB Doom Roller

It actually looks like TRU is stocking and selling this stuff and not just through another seller. So, when did this happen?
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

They found a bunch of stuff in the back of a warehouse it looks like. Hey lets sell these at crazy collector prices!
Too many toys. Not enough space!

When I started collecting toys in the early nineties, TRU still had a clearance isle. This isle was usually full of stuff like Secret Wars and Super Powers vehicles. Later on, when I worked there, the clearance isle had been phased out for various reasons, but you could still find the odd thing in boxes of packed up merchandise. It's totally possible that this stuff was still in some backroom somewhere.
Actually, this reminds me more of working at Value Village. The management, who knew absolutely nothing about this sort of thing, were given a collector's guide one day and would jump on every chewed up thing they found, often putting said items in the display case for pricey stuff. I used to think it was pretty funny.

Yeah, they found a new label for "clearance".

If they wait long enough, they can raise the price and call it vintage!

                Brilliant!!

Wow, if the prices weren't so high, I'd buy a set of those star wars figures just because it's cool that TRU has them!

I love the review of the Secret Wars Captain America by somebody who doesn't seem to be grasping the concept.

THE PRODUCUCT IS WELL MADE AND THE ONLY THING I AM UPSET ABOUT IS THIS IS A REMAKE OF THE ORIGINAL FROM THE 1980'S. THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO CASH IN ON THE ONGOING STORY LINES ABOUT CAPTAIN AMERICA BEING KILLED BY OUR GOVERNMENT IN FRONT OF THE FEDERAKL CORT HOUSE IN NYC. THE STORY IS ABOUT THE GOV. MAKING ALL SUPERHEROES GIVING UP THEIR REAL NAMES & THE CAPTAIN AMERICA FORT AGAINST IT W/DOZENS OF OTHER HEROES. THEN HE IS KILLED BY A SECRET FORCE OF GOV. OPS. THAT IRON MAN IS RUNING, WHO HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY AN ALIEN RACE THATS GOING TO KILL ALL HUMANS & TAKE EARTH FOR THEMSELVES. SO W/ALL THE RT. TO YOUR OWN PRIVAQCY, GETS HIM KILLED FOR SPEAKING OUT, LIKE WHAT IS HAPPENING OVER IN IRAQ. SO THERE IS NO WAY TOYS R US HAD THIS FIGURE SITTING AROUND FOR 30 YRS .THEY ARE RIPPING OFF THE PUBLIC. [...] HAVE A GREAT SUMMER .. LONG LIVE AMERICA !!P.S. IT'S WORSE THAN THE OIL COMPANIES.
Sort of a round about way to come to your conspiracy theory.

THE CAPTAIN AMERICA FORT AGAINST IT W/DOZENS OF OTHER HEROES
Gotta give that Captain America credit though....always forting against some injustice in the world today....

It's not what everyone thinks. Toys R Us gets the stuff from Brian's Toys and sells it on their web site.

I would have just stuck these on an end cap in some TRU somewhere, and set up a webcam to catch the reactions.

Dum-de-dum de -dum..Lets see whats plugging up the pegs today. Hmm, still a dozen Indiana Jones Spike figures with that stupid green snake, a ton of Infinite Crisis Dr. Fates, Death Squad Commander, More Batmen than you can shake a stick at.....huh..whaaa....DEATH SQUAD COMMANDER??? Must be some kind of mistake..a joke maybe...Waitaminit! Imperial Officer, Salacious Crumb...Heh...Ha...HA HAHABWAHAHA!...No..no got to be cool. I dont know whats going on here, but I dont want to attract any of those nerdy collectors in the store. No...this shall all be mine. Just...Just act cool, slowly throw all the mysterious vintage toys into a cart and make my way casually to the til......Oh God! Oh no....They saw me....Back off tubby thats mine!...Get your slimy stinkin' meathooks off of that pencilneck little twerp!.....Keep those liverspotted fingers off of that bandolier Granny......Oh, the inhumanity!!

...On second thought...I see why they are selling it on line instead!
