These TV licensed gun sets were likely made by HG Toys, who never missed the opportunity to put TV show logos on weapons. Getting a S.W.A.T rifle in my neighbourhood made you a kind of royalty back in 1977.

I personally used a stick combined with the "an-an-an-an-an-an" sound effect, which totally bit....

i had that swat rifle and loved it!! sounded just like the one on the show too!! those were the days where guns didnt have to be orange or yellow or some crazy color!!

I used to have a CHiPs set. It came with a gun, a holster, sunglasses, and I think it had a badge too. I was cool in them CHiPs shades riding around on my bike pretending to be Ponch. My cousin had a set and was Jon of course. Real looking toy guns used to be fun.

I had swat and starsky and huthc sets loved em. I have continued to support the toy gun industry despite the PC funky colors with my son.

Wow! Those look so real... as an avid gun owner and employee of the US Marshals Service I see my share of guns everyday, those are scary good. I guess I don't remember them being so realistic when I was a kid, well before the advent of the orange plug...

FUNNY STORY: We were at Disney World and getting off Pirates Of the Caribbean walking through the toy shop they had a bin of flintlock pistols all with the orange plug! I mean I am all about kids being safe and officer's detecting the real thing, but c'mon. What kind of assailant is going to use a 14th century black powder flintlock to commit a crime?! The gun would be worth more than the 7/11 take, and that assumes the person could use it! Not to mention it's got a range of like 10 feet and it just as likely to blow up in your face... Are cops really worried about a rash of black powder bandits, under the age of 10...

Man do I miss those days. It's such a shame that things changed and go so bad that they did have to get orange, yellow , lime green or whatever. I agree those are great !

For someone who grew up "In the Woods", this really takes me back to the Search and Destroy Commando raids my cousins and I played. The object was to evade being killed by fake weapons. All terrain was fair game, from climbing trees to covering yourself with leaves. It was kind of like the show "Manhunter", you'd have to reach the finish line before getting killed by the hunting party.

I miss the days of kids guns without the orange cap too. I think the kid across the street had a couple of those SWAT guns (or some that looked a lot like them). I always got the broken one, but it was still better than a stick!

Funny you should mention that. Recently, a guy stole his grandfather's gun, sawed off the barrel and stock and robbed a convenience store with it. He got something like $27 and was arrested within an hour. Turns out that the gun he cut up would have been worth something like $10,000 if he hadn't cut it up. So rather than ask grandpa for the gun and sell it for $10,000, he cuts it up, robs a store and goes to jail.

Not that I'm an advocate of toys guns, though I did play w/ some when I was a kid. I had a white handled cap gun, a blue-grey Marx machine gun that made this terrific sound, (and Mom would hide it!), and an orange space ray water gun.
