    Meet The Rocketeer

Mike T submitted this more recent mall appearance photo, it's from 1991 (that's what i consider recent) and it's his kids with Dave Steven's classic creation, The Rocketeer at Potomac Mills Mall near Woodbridge, Virginia . I didn't know there were appearances such as this but it makes total sense considering the costume.

    Cool photo,

    I always liked the Rocketeer

Even though it was a relative flop at the boxoffice you'd think it would have become a cult classic by now.

I love the Rocketeer!!! Was a Fan since it first appeared in the back of Starslayer. Got to meet Dave in the late 80's Wonderful guy! I loved the movie despite the minor changes in it. I wish they would Reboot this and make a second movie.

              Hmmmm....

I'd always felt the Rocketeer would have done a lot better if it's timing was different: a few years earlier and it could have benefited from the Indiana Jones related 30's cliffhanger revival; a few years later and it could have benfitted from the mid 90's steampunk resurgence.

I think one of the reasons the Rocketeer failed was it seemed to be advertised as a kids/teens movie as far as I can remember.

If the plot was tweeked a bit to get rid of some of the boring mid sequences and it was advertised as a light adult comedy/drama I think it would have made a better showing.

As it is, the Rocketeer didn't know what audience they were shooting for -- which Disney made the same mistakes with Tron and The Black Hole years earlier

I need to go rent this. I know exactly why I missed it, but I haven't gotten around to watching in 18 years.

(I moved to Japan about a month before it premiered. By the time it made it to base theaters, I was at sea. In other words, a series of missed connections that I have never rectified.)

That's a cool Rocketeer. And box office hit or not, I liked the movie

Rocketeer is a great movie, and one of the most faithful comic adaptations for sure. It's a real shame it didn't go over as planned.

Plus, it has Jennifer Connelly before Hollywood got ahold of her and forced her to lose weight.

I always liked the retro look of the rocketeer but I have never actually seen the movie.

A couple of years back at Wonderfest, we displayed some of the original Rocketeer costume and props from the movie and classic serial. Here are some of those pics -
