When I was a kid, I carried around one of my brother's old orange kneeling cowboy. In my classroom, I have astronauts and firemen, with assorted cars and rockets."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

Wow, this thread just jarred my memory of being around 8 years old and sending away for army men from a comic ad. Something like 1000 soldiers for $1. In the picture, they looked like the regular army men I was used to, but when I got them they were these tiny, flat figures. How disappointing. Anybody remember that ad?

My brother & I had a lot of this stuff: army men, cowboys & Indians, plastic dinosaurs, plastic cases with the biplanes and another with jets, another plastic case with sea creatures----and I also had one those (I think it was by Marx) metal "suitcases" that unfolded into a castle and came with a bunch of Knights & Vikings. The castle turrets snapped on to the corners of the unfolded metal suitcase/playset and it even came with working catapults! Good stuff.Comment

I remember my friends and I would set up our platoons and "shoot" at each other with marbles. First one to knock down all the enemy's troops was the winner.Looking for spare Action Jackson Army Helmet

Lots army men that I had sadly fell to the fate of my lighters and firecrackers when I was discovering the joy of blowing up stuff as a youngster. However I kept all the good ones which i still have.
I was at toys r us last night out of curiosity to see if they still sold them at toy stores. The ones they had looked terrible and way $$$ (as was the store itself, well nowdays).
I guess ill just have to stick to dollar stores and what not.
I did score a nice unopened bag of army men from the mid 90's for only a buck at the goodwill.
My favorites will always be the marx cavemen and dinasours. I lost mine years ago and when I see them on ebay there either to expensive or I get outbid very fast!
I saw on one of these posts someone scored some mint condition dinasours and cavemen at a yard sale for cheap. What a score that was!
Anyone remember those Marx-Caveman/Dinasour sets?Comment

I had lots of fun with the green army men as a kid. We'd line them up and throw dirt clods at each other's armies. If you "accidentally" hit your friend who was standing too close to his army, well, that was part of the game.Comment

I remember my friend ordered that footlocker of army men from the comic book ad.
This tiny cardboard box arrives and it's those crappy 2-dimensional flat figures. We looked at each other and said what crap these are. LOL
That kept me from ordering any other set. I always wanted to get that Roman set and I think there was a Civil War one and Vikings one as well but I was too gun-shy after those army men to order them.

Our local Toys R Us had 2 playsets, they are recasts of the 60s/70s Tim-Mee toy soilders (you know the classic vietnam era guys). You get a tan army and a green army, complete with recasts of those Patton looking tanks.
There is a 20 dollar set with 2 tanks, a jet, helicopter and landscaping peices and a playmat. Looks like you get about 30 of each army color guys.
There is a smaller 10 dollar set with less peices. Im gonna pic some of these up soon.
There are some pretty cool dinosaurs in a local Asian dollar store (they look to be recasts of Marx dinos.) They have them in small and large sizes.
