Plastic Toy army men

I have some, I get them from time to time.
Me and a buddy have a game we play with them with dice, but a little simpler than a full on war game. We have even thrown in Dinos here and there too.

My favorites are the crazy color Army Men from 1970s molded in Day glow pink, yellow and blue colors.

I picked up a huge lot of the thin ones from the old comic books ads. Still trying to figure out what to do with them.

When I was little, I would glue\staple them to a piece of 2x4, then put it in the creek and snipe them from the banks with a bb gun.

I still buy the odd set here and there, usually dollar stores. I dont just get soldiers, but cowboys, astronauts, knights..whatever. these kind of toys remind me of the old days when toys like this were mainstream and everybody made them!

I ordered those as a kid out of one of my comic books. It was one of my earliest lessons in disappointment! My mom told me that the stuff they sold in those comic book ads was just junk, but I thought, "how can they mess up army men?" Well, a few weeks later, I learned the answer to that question.

Marx was the leader in the figures and Remco came out with Horrible Hamilton invaders
I have a ton of soldiers, I purchased from comics book ads, pick them up here and there.
Ideal had some of the nicest pieces called the Battle Matics.great Dioramas, vehicles figures.
and the Anzio landing Playset is one of the most sought after playsets.It comes with a self propelled gun in silver turret and Green body, with was released By itself in reversed colors.
ideal sold there army men molds to Multiple toys, and produced the the in all green , then in 71 released it in white and orange with white and orange soldiers.
Realistic a Canadian company produces some really nice soldiers removeable helmets and weapons and armor vehicles.
great hobby to get into many different manufacturing companies.

I used to have tons of these as a kid. I loved the GUTS figures which really ended up being painted versions of these ( Well Sort Of ) . LOL.

Yea Ive been collecting army men, cowboys and indians, fireman, etc etc. the for quite awhile.
Marx figures are my favorite.
Just scored a nice haul someone was getting rid of on craigslist. Ill post some pics when i can.
Also,I just scored some nice ones from a dollar store but I also scored some crappy ones that snapped in half at another dollar store.
They seem to be harder to find nowdays as the ones I find tend to not nearly be as good as older ones from the 60's,70's,80's.
Anyone else collect these?

I always wondered why the vintage Army Men, from the 60s/70s, weren't ever reproduced like so many other hard plastic toys have been - for example, if you go to KMart now you'll find a dinosaur set that uses old Marx Dinosaur molds, you can find Cowboy and Indian sets that use old molds from the 60s, but for some reason all the many army men sets you can find in stores are modern. Wonder what happened to all those old molds?

Does anyone know who made the playsets that were advertised in comic books and monster magazines in the '70s and '80s? They used small molded figures like the army men, but some of them were cowboy themed, for example. I thought they looked really neat, and I believe I sent away for one of two of them.

Also, does anyone recall the little plastic airplanes that came in a box (and probably a bag, as well), that were various bright colors, and had the name and specs of the airplane under the wing? Man, those were my FAVORITE toy when I was a little kid in the late '70s. I remember getting them at a Giant store right before it closed down around 1977-78.
