    Wonderful Wonderbug

Steve F sent in this killer scan from a Duncan Catalog that featured something I've never seen before, a toy car based on the Sid and Marty Krofft series Wonderbug! Wonderbug was a segment on the Krofft Supershow and I doubt I missed an episode.

I have no idea if these hit stores, I've never seen one on the secondary market but that is by no means conclusive evidence, what I don't know could fill a warehouse.

Did anyone have this? Drop a line! This is the only other Wonderbug toy that I've seen, I know it was made:

I could be wrong Brian, but I have vague memories of having a car VERY similar to that, that I used as WonderBug/Speed Buggy, which I thought were the same thing. I was like 2 or something. It may have been this one, maybe not. But it sure FEELS familiar to me.

And of course I had a Duncan Batmobile. I still have one, but it's incomplete. I need a nice one.

Back in the 70's my cousin built a dune buggie using a kit built on top of a Volkswagon bug chassie

          That thing was really neat.

He used to drive it over every couple of months and takes us for rides in it.

It wasn't street legal so we had to go mostly on fields and backroads.

          Good times

If it was made, you would think some one at Duncan would have said "Hey! Let's paint it green and call it Speed Buggy. We'll make even more money!"

It's the inspiration for the name of my blog.

A local K-Mart had the Duncan Batmobile and Batboat sets hanging on the pegs forever. They always hung in the section that had the bendie Mego figures, and a lot of AHI's superhero and apes stuff...you know, the ones with the motorcycles and parachutes. Marx superhero figures in day glow green, yellow, and pink sat in a wire basket directly below, along with the Marx water pistols. On the shelves towards the bottom, superhero related puzzles, colorforms, and other associated oddities like the Mego banks. Funny, I can remember that toy department like I just walked through it...but do I remember where I set my truck keys a half hour ago...no.
At the time I used to curse those Batmobiles,as I considered them inferior copies of my cherished Corgi's. Now, I wish I could walk into that K-mart of yore and buy them all up!!!
