Big Jim's Pack Line Mattel 1975-1977

Just was wondering since I am totally into this line as of now how many other collectors are out their who collect this line. Was not a fan of Big Jim when he was a sportmans only his PACK line.this line is getting harder to find mint in box condition and if you do its usually with a high price tag

I love the line, had a few of them as a kid. I'm also not a fan of the earlier sports oriented Big Jims, but love the PACK line, as well as the European Secret Agent and sci-fi lines, and Mexican sci-fi lines. I'd love to start collecting, but the high prices are kind of scaring me away from starting yet another line to collect, especially since I'd prefer MIB. I'm already spreading myself kind of thin, so it's hard to diversify even more, but I'm sure it will happen someday.

I never had a Big Jim (I almost abbreviated his name with his initials )
but always thought the P.A.C.K. was cool. I'd find it hard to resist buying one if I ran across them at a sale cheap.

I used to have a bunch of the Big Jim PACK figures when I was a kid. I had them up untill a few years ago when I sold them. Looking back on it, I wish I would have kept them. I always thought they were cool.

I was never a Big Jim fan, but I almost started collecting the PACK figures myself, post-Mego. They all looked ready for cool adventures!

Big Jim is cool! Still have one of my original figures that didn't break. The last Action figure I bought was The Whip! I thought it was the coolest. I enjoyed the sports stuff too.

I guess I'm one of the few who didnt like PACK. I preferred the earlier "make him into whatever you want" play pattern. Could be because most of my Figures and such came from this era.
I also like the European stuff that followed after PACK. Never knew about most of it until a few years ago, but have been fascinated with it ever since.

I've got a few things from the Pack line. Most of my stuff however came from the regular line. Let's see, I have the Beast truck loose; I have Zorak and Dr. Steel in the box; Torpedo Fist loose; and I have the Big Jim Leader loose and incomplete. It's interesting how much longer that line went on overseas after it was retired here in the US. It seemed to have a life of it's own everywhere else. I think Big Jim got "Frankensteined" into other characters in the late 70's. A Tarzan figure (option with an Ape or Cat). I have the Ape version. Then you had a Grizzly Adams figure and Takoma figure. Custom sculpted heads, but on Big Jim bodies (got both of those boxed). I'm very surprised no one has tried to revive the Big Jim line or at least that style of body. Probably the coolest and most life-like in it's day.

I equate it to GI Joe coming out with Bulletman.. Sort of the 'super-heroing' the toy lines with Mego's success.

Big Jim's PACK is da bomb. I started collecting them last year after really, really wanting them back... like most of us, I didn't like the sportsman/athlete Jim, but fell over when I saw the PACK with that Kirby?Buscema package art, which I recognized even as a kid.

I think the bodies are great, but I definitely did not like the American version of the hands. Looked like Jim was holding out his hand to admire his fresh manicure.

Rumor has it the Max Steel line was the end result of an attempt within the ranks at Mattel to revive Big Jim. Heck, ol' Big Jim even appeared in an episode of the cartoon.

Hopefully, somebody at Mattel will wise up and re introduce Big Jim all proper like.

I agree, the PACK concept was an attempt to jump on the superhero bandwagon. A good attempt to be sure....but still, it was a grab at Mego. To be fair, the European stuff was pretty trendy too, going from the secret agent stuff to the sci-fi lines. I still want them!!!

Yeah, wasn't Max supposed to be Big Jim's nephew or something?
