Inaction Heroes

I've got a real appreciation for these well sculpted Marx figures now but I have to be honest, as a kid I did not enjoy them. Occasionally I'd find a Superhero or a soldier in someone's toy box and think "who'd want this?". I guess I was spoiled by Mego at that point, so much articulation.
Now I've got some of the Universal Monsters on my desk as I type this, odd how that works..

I use to have a bunch of USA and Japanese soldiers I also had some Marx Vikings and Gladiators

They may be inactive but I loved the Marx superheroes as a kid, heck I must still love them considering the pile I have sitting near me.

I have the Captain America. Man, the sculpting on that is better than a lot of the mega-price statues you see in comic shops. Great stuff. But yeah, I'd been bored with them as a kid.

I liked them. I'd still buy them if I found them at a steal. I wouldn't pay top dollar for sure. They made a bunch of repros (reused old Marx molds) later on, too.

Loved these are a kid but only had a few of the soldiers and a Napleon Solo that I traded some kid for. Always wanted some of the Campus Cuties. Have no idea how they were sold at the time, but they are very well done and rather unique.

I had some of the soldiers, I had the Marx Iwo Jima playset that came in the box with the plastic top. I had Navarone too. I still some of the soldiers around.
I never knew they had Superheros, what playset was that? Anybody got a picture of the set?

It's interesting how things change.... Back in the day these were made as cheapie impulse buy kind of items; and kids could amass huge armies of 'em. Now we get the equivalent as expensive high-end super detailed sculptures sold to collectors who'd pass out if they ever saw someone playing with them.

A bit of interesting history on these if anyone is interested.

My old town ... Hackettstown NJ was home to Bergan Machine and Tool.

I've always known that place as the producer of machine parts ... but I read in an old Toy Shop article they used to make Marx army figures.

I had all of the Marvel ones except Iron Man. I agree that after playing with Megos, I was spoiled and the Marx ones weren't nearly as fun. Plus for some reason, I picked some weird colours and ended up with an orange Spidey, dark blue Hulk and lime green Captain America.

My uncle used to do that... they really looked impressive. Of course, I tried to copy the effect, but as a little kid back then, the results were less than stellar.

For some reason, the superheroes were not stocked in the loose Marx bins in the stores where I grew up (Metro Boston area) in the 60's. Either that, or they were always gone by the time I got to them. I always only found the soldiers, cavemen (remember them?), horror characters and occasionally if I was lucky, one of the Man from Uncle figures.
