MAC type ocean explorer playset from late 70s

Trying to find the name or some info/pictures of a toy I had.
I got it Crhistmas of 79 or 80. It was a rather large set, consisting of a ton of pieces.
First there was a about a foot and half tall blue "ocean floor" mountain type of peice, that also had a cardboard backdrop. On top of that sat a 3 1/4 inch scale fishing boat, that had a tank like vehicle with a clear dome on it. It also had a boom with a shark cage.
There were 3 or 4 rubber sharks that could be hung under the boat.
There was also alot of plastic fish crabs lobsters etc. There was a treasure chest.
Also there were 3 Matchbox MAC looking guys. They also had some accersories like scuba tanks and I think spearguns and such.
One thing I remember is it was cheaply made, the guys all broke within a few weeks.
I am almost positive it come from a Sears or Pennys catalog, 99% of my Xmas presents back then came from one of those 2 catalogs ( my aunt worked in the sears catalog pick up place and my grandma worked at Pennys)
    Thanks ,

Sounds similar to a playset that I think Marx put out but I can't think of the name of it.

Well, thats possible. It was poorly made tho, way lower quality than something Marx would have made.
The guys were definatly M.A.C knock offs. And real poor ones.
All 3 of them were yellow, and the arms and legs came off all the time.
They were badly painted too, I remember all the hair paint rubbed off rather quickly.
The boat and the tower and the fish were great, it was the guys and other pieces that were done so badly.

how about a link? I just did a search on google and was able to find two things:

one was a forum post with pics about this knock-off line which I never heard of till now, and also on this forum was a site link for another MAC website that I never knew about till now

Wow. Great stuff. Always fun to see something different, especially a knock off of MAC. I actually do recall seeing that Indian figure with a different cowboy figure sold on a card at a Woodwards grocery store back in the seventies or early eighties.

I really believe I saw the catalog ad that livingdead70 was talking about. Many years ago I was looking in a Christmas catalog (70's) and I thought I was looking at the MAC boat, but hearing LD70's description I must have been seeing this knock off. I recall the boat being on the top of water with the levels beneath being of rock and the shark. It was a smaller size pic, but a really cool toy set layout

I need to find the catalog and hopefully it was in one of the 3 majors (Sears, J.C Penny or possible service merchandise).

I found the link in here in an older post about MAC. Ill track it back down later.
I found Sears 79 and 80 catalogs on flickr and didnt see them in there.
It definatly came from a place like that tho.

I saw a toy line in the early 90s called "Son of Action Jack", I had no idea who his father was.

there is the link to the site.
It only has pictures of the guys tho, and some of the vehicles, no mention of
any playsets. But those are definatly the guys.

the other main (and possibly only true) MAC site was the one off strafe.com. I was in touch with the guy years ago because I had a box variation for the MAC commando challenge

These knockoffs are great, if I only knew then.. The catalog was probably closer to 74-77 that had the seaboat

hmmm, well I hope I or somebody can find a pic of it.
I looked at a picture I have on a slide of x mas day 79, Im holding a BSG ship in my hand and parts of the set can be seen in the back ground.
The picture is a slide tho. How could I scan it?

That is easy if you have a scanner that also offers a photo option. Most of the newer scanners are made to scan photographs as well nowadays. You can do it that way and just put your slide on the scanner
