    Marx Safari Adventure Catalog

In the 70s, parents groups had pretty much ruled out the concept of killing each other by stomping on war toys but it was still perfectly fine to shoot animals. Everybody was doing it, Big Jim, G.I. Joe, the Adventure People (OK they never had a gun) and this great series by Marx simply called Safari Adventure.
Safari Adventure was it's own little 7" universe of characters (such as "Buck Hunter"), animals and a terrific amount of vehicles and playsets. Not well known in collector's circles now, Safari Adventure is really worth a look:

The rarest in the series and almost impossible to find loose with his jacket and felt hat.

I heard you guys mention Buck Hunter before, but for some reason I thought he was some modern hunting figure you'd find at Bass Pro Shops or something. This line looks really well done!

Marx at its finest. During the mid to late seventies Marx put out some incredible action figure lines....unfortunately, nobody was looking anymore. Quaker Oats didnt know how to run things, and the magic sales Marx used to enjoy seemed to have gone away with old Louis Marx.

Marx was making figures in this scale since the 1960's, way before Mego, starting with the Rat Patrol line, Johnny Colt, Johnny Apollo, and more (including a Latin America only Lone Ranger and Tonto based off of the Johnny Colt figures). The Safari Adventure line was the last, and design wise, the best.

I have the elephant only! For some crazy reason I've always been too fond of it to throw it away. It even made the move from Texas to Oregon with me 15 years ago...

I thought I remember it being offered with a safari guide (?? - it's been over 30 years so I could be wrong), but I was never interested in him, only the elephant. To this day the elephant sits in my entertainment center out of the sun. I decided to get on the internet and see if I could find any info about my elephant. It's not for sale though....There is some brown sticky stuff leaking out of it's trunk. Has anyone else had this problem?

I was going to upload an image but it seems I can't do that on here from the photos on my computer.

I had Kim when I was about 9 or 10, and it took forever, but I finally found one (NRFB) on Ebay. Our pal Russ found a Buck Hunter (sans the knob and the accessories but wearing the jacket) and gave it to me to keep Kim company. They happily reside in my toyroom and Kim is nice enough to share her accessories w/ Action Jackson.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

I've got the lion and several elephants. I may even have the rhino, but I'm not sure...

Been collecting this line for awhile. Still need the Gator and the Gorilla and a few Tower accessories. But, it has quickly become one of my favorite lines to collect. Any other Safari nuts out there?

                            I like toys.
