Wow! I've never seen those before! That's pretty cool! Spirit of '76"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true." -
I remember this set fondly. It took forever for me to understand how the rip cord was supposed to work. Pull it, set the car on the floor and nothing. Oh, you have to give the car a push. Very complicated when i was 6.Zombie? Vampire? Evil clown?!? Yes, please.Comment

Big SUD fan here too!
I'm 80% sure we had the Stars And Stripes version in Australia (Aren't we the 51st state?!), although not in wide release I'd guess. Haven't been able to prove that with a catalogue yet, but I've heard a couple of people say they had the set as kids.
I have the 72 "pastel' version in a Toltoys box, as well as a Toltoys Ultra Chrome set MIB, complete with the cars still sealed in their original shrinkwrap :-)
Along with Evel Knievel this was the best action toy of the 70's IMO.
Cheers!

SSP cars were one of the coolest toys ever
I had several and made a lot of dents in my mom's baseboards with them. I had a spash-up derby set, which was an absolute blast, but I've never seen the patriotic version.Comment

Wow! I wish I had seen that version of SUD when I was a kid. I was really into all Bi-Centennial stuff. I had a Tyco slot race set that had 1976 patriotic-style cars. It's all good!Comment

Oh man SUD was my favorite toy as a kid I used to play with it for hours...
Wish I had one now...“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

A friend of mine had smash-up derby, when we were kids. It was always a lot of fun.

"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment
