African American G.I. Joe Talking Commander

I don't know if anyone posted this yet but for anyone who always wanted a Holy Grail G.I. Joe figure but couldn't afford it; the G.I. Joe collector club is offering a reproduction African American Talking Commander.

Price is $58 complete with outfit and box plus a membership fee which entitles you to a free 12 inch figure in 2010. It isn't super cheap but the Club repros are really good quality in my opinion and I think a decent original Talking African American Joe is easily $1,000+ (at least last time I checked) so I figured it was a good deal for those of us that always wanted one but don't have that kind of discretionary income.

YES! A Nurse in the repro packaging. That'd be awesome.

The club is now releasing Talkers from the painted head pre-1970 era (as well as that AA Talking Commander). These talkers include two additional phrases originally recorded but never used for the original Joes.

A vintage AA Talker (released in 1973) goes for a couple of hundred (if that) these days. I still have mine from 1973.

The original AA painted head Joe (from about 1964 or 65, can't recall when they introduced him) is still probably the most valuable single GI Joe figure (aside from the "branded", "smoothies", Nurse, etc).

I can't figure out why they won't redo the nurse. There was a clear body as club exclusive some years ago, but not quite the same thing. There must be some serious collector demand for this item. Sure would be nice to see it available.

I'm sure they will come out with one eventually.

I remember asking the person who runs the club why they won't come out with an AA talking commander and his response was that they probably would...it would just take a while.

The nurse was very unpopular when originally released. Boys didn't want a girl "doll" and girls thought she was ugly (she was). And today's collectors still have this same mindset to some degree, though I feel many would buy it for what it is- a repro of one of the most rare GI Joe items ever produced.

I started posting about this in the Sandbox (GI Joe Usenet group) years ago and most told me they though the Nurse was "too ugly" to buy. So I think the club may be questioning this as well, though I'm pretty certain it'd be a big hit. I think they just wanted to get the main figures out of the way first. And they do have three more talkers coming up soon in addition to the AA Talking Commander and the Marine currently available. Also the box for the Nure is pretty large (open window box). That might frighten them too.

If you want a nurse please shoot them an email (like I have) and request it (in repro packaging!):

Cool! Where's the "donated section" Which auction?

The muscle body talkers are also kind of rare, with the AA talkers being more rare. I've got a few that I've restored. I've also heard the muscle body talker from Canada that speaks French is quite rare, I picked up one of those years ago accidentally on eBay (thought it was an English talker).
