    Models, anyone else into them?

Okay, if I got this in the wrong place sorry, I wasnt sure where to post.
Anyone else here into models? I was as kid in the 70s. Had some Star Trek and Star Wars models, cars, WW2.
About a year ago I was bored one day and ventured into our local Hobby Town. And came back out with the Polar Lights Godzilla and Rodan and some paint and stuff. I had the Monogram Godzilla that glowed as a child, these are reissues of the Aurorua 60s kits as I am sure most of you know.
I threw those first 2 kits up in about 2 weeks and I was bitten by the bug again.
Over the past year Ive built several Star Wars kits, several sets of the Tamiya World War 2 figures and a few WW2 airplanes.
I am about to order the AMT reissue of the ENterprise Kit from the 60s/70s another I had as a child. And I want that groovy kit of Spock fighting that 3 headed snake thing. I want to get another Ertyl ALien kit as the one I built at x-mas went horribly wrong, and as I found on the web it was a poor recast.

    Hmmmm....

I can't remember a time when I DIDN'T build model kits. (My folks say I started when I was a year old or so.) I still have a lot of the ones from when I was a kid, in various stages of disrepair. When I moved a few years back I did a count, and have about 500 kits. Half of which are built. (If you count 25/28mm gaming minis I have about 8000. Again, half of which are done.) One of the reasons I have so mnay is 'cos people know I like them, and bring me stuff they find at yard sales, discount stores, their attic, etc.

I've always loved the Auroras, especially the Prehistoric Scenes. I've been slowly putting together the entire display. Same with the Monster Scenes, which are thankfully being reissued by Mobius Models. (Fingers crosssed for "Gruesome Goodies.") I've been trying NOT to collect the Movie Monsters, but I have all the hard to get ones, so it's almost a no-brainer. (Or is that a no willpower-er?) I'm also a fan of the old 60's and 70's sci-fi kits. Some Star Trek, the odd military kit or car. Those are mostly for refrence when drawing.

My biggest love is old Japanese robots. I have hundreds of Gundam kits. (Mostly before F91, although I loved "G-Fighter.") Lots of other odd robots too. When I was 10 or so you could get TONS of Japanese kits, for cheap. So me and the guys stocked up. We'd use 'em for different wargames, playing around the house in large scale. Macross, Dougram, Dorvack (got a weak spot for Dorvack) Ideon, Votoms, the Hasegawa STX Techno series. Then the garage kits happened....

    >I want to get another Ertyl ALien kit

Keep cruising ebay. Check under AMT as well. I got one for $2, and I've been chopping it up and putting Mego compatable joints on it. (I'm gonna cast it up and make an army of them.)

Oh yea, all over models growing up. Aurora Monsters, Comic Scenes, cars, planes, SMDM, Snoopy, Flintstones, Disney Pirates... you name it - I probably had it. Loved them all. I have an English Man 'O War ship I've had for over 35 years still waiting to be built. It's just so big.

I also have a complete set of Aurora Comic Scenes MIB and am building one of each (only had 6 growing up). I also have some of the polar lights kits (which were hard to find here) of the Bat-vehicles and Marvel heroes and some others waiting to be built someday. I model grails are to find an Aurora Wonder Woman and Penguin.

I love those Auroura comic books kits. I wish like hell someone would reissue those.
I really want a model of the Notromo from Alien but I all I can find is some resin kit that costs like 300 bucks.
Have the Auroura Dino kits been reproduced at all?

            >You ever tried any of the tamiya dinos?

They're another series I'm trying to resist. They are very nice.

            >Have the Auroura Dino kits been reproduced at all?

About half of them. The Monogram kits use the Aurora molds. More info here:

Yep I just saw that CTC.
Apprently Revell is going to reissue some of the Auroura kits this year. Im definatly getting these.
Those Tamyia sets do look nice. I think I may grab one of those this weekend too and see what they are like. They are in 1/35 scale, I got some 1/35 Tamiya soldiers, that could a great dio right there. Germans vs Dinos.

As a Kid i was into the Aurora kits loved them....As an Adult I got heavily into Resin Kits. Those suckers are addictive and expensive. I had a lot of them till one day one of my old cats decided to leap on a plastic case where i kept most of them.

Crash went the case and most of my pieces broke into pieces.....Pretty much ended my desire right there and then. I only have two pieces left A Yvonne Craig Batgirl and a small Female model. Every once in awhile I get the bug but I no longer desire to pay a lot for kits to paint.

I love models but just haven't had the time to build them anymore. I'm too damn particular about details so I kind of talk myself out of it most of the time.
I mostly like 1/25th scale cars, classic cars especially, although I do have a few scattered non-car ones but nothing really old or valuable. I loved the Aurora stuff as a kid but none of them have survived. I have boxes and boxes of unbuilt 1/25th scale cars. A lot of them are Jo-Han kits and as they get older and harder to find I find myself less likely to want to build them. They are worth way more unbuilt. Other than cars I like airplanes but again, don't have too many of those. Never really cared for boats/ships.

One of my most favourite models to build was the Doctor Who Fan Club of America's POLICE BOX -- circa mid 1980's

                    It's basically all cardboard.

It actually was the catalist and inspiration for all of my Priority Box Trek Mego customs.

                      Thats pretty cool Kirk.
I never got big into cars or ships. I did a Kiss van as a kid ( god I wish i had that still) Smokey and the bandit car and I think a General Lee.
I had a Cylon Raider BSG kit that I never built, wish I had that thing too.
Has anyone gotten one of the Mobius kits yet ? If so how are they>

I got a bunch of them. They're very good; almost exact copies. Molded in similar colours. (Although the cage is molded in a grey/blue and not the weird metallic blue the original was.) If you want a set of Monster Scenes to build you can't go wrong. Here's some pics of the insect and Doctor:

I'd like to get the Moebius Invisible Man but they seem to be a little pricey. I know they have a Iron Man, new Spider-man and a Green Goblin coming out as well Conan. I was hoping these will be like the Comic Scenes kits in terms of looks ad size but I doubt it. Iron Man is from the movie so I'm guessing Spidey is as well.

I was pretty into the garage kit scene of the late eighties/early ninties but dropped out and got more into action figure dealing by 92. I have friends who did a lot of cool kits for places like dimensional designs and polydata. I kind of miss that whole scene.

Hadn't picked up my brushes in years but eventually my kids got me back into it, I first got them into Aurora reissues for Halloween but recently we did Dr.Zaius and a Raptor (my daughter likes monsters).

Now I'm anxiously awaiting Mr.Spock's reissue.

                              mmmmm, model kits,

I was an avid modeler as a tweeny kid. I was always into hot rods and kit bashing up the cars that I wanted to see myself driving in. I also had a penchant for aging new kits. Like taking that years model of corvette, and cutting, melting, and painting until it was the appropriate barn find from 50 years in the future. More wishful thinking, I suppose. I had a few diorama items and a ton of Star Wars kits as well. I can also remember regluing the engines back onto my STTMP Enterprise about a thousand times before I got sick of doing that and sacrificed it to the 4th of July gods of explosives.

Then, I got into real hotrods (and girls, and pot, and beer ) and all the money for the toys and time for models seemed to disappear.

Nowadays, I pine for those model kits, but have not yet dove in as my space gets more crowded everyday. I may follow in palitoys footsteps and wait for my kids to spur on the kitbuilding.

I sure do love looking at those kits tho. I recently saw a set of Polar Lights (I think) Star Trek models at the local hobby robby. The Klingon D7 rocked!!! I was a micrometer away from swaying into the kit world again, but I had to leave it on the shelf.

I think I may just have to go look at my giant pile of Sideshow items right now and figure out how much space I would have if they quietly went away. Decisions, decisions.

                              have a good time
