    Colouring Book Theatre: Dune

It's been entirely too long since I've done Colouring Book Theatre but I finally found one at a flea market last week that seemed fitting.

Dune is possibly the worst colouring book I've ever reviewed, not because it's badly done but because it has no freaking business being a colouring book!

This is Hollywood ignorance at it's finest, a respected science fiction novel, Dune was sold as the next Star Wars when it's just too complicated and dark to be popular for children.

The best comparision I can make is it's like seeing a Watchmen colouring book at Target.

This page is one of the reasons I had trouble with the movie itself, waaaaaay too much dialouge setting up the movie. I mean, when has a colouring book ever had this much to say?

"Can I borrow your white crayon Sally? I need to make Puss" Here's the darkness I told you about, who in hell thought it was a good idea to have the "boil picking scene" in a colouring book? The Baron is not a character that should have been marketed to children, he's just gross and not in a "Garbage Pail Kids" kind of way more of a "Gee, I hope he doesn't sit next to me on the bus" thing.

In the common sense department, we're somehow spared an image of Sting in that stupid metal G String. Although, this piece advertises several activity books in this series so I'm gonna go ahead and assume you get to connect the dots on his crotch somewhere....

Another winning picture for children to colour.

Sting's over acting shines in this book, anyway, he gets stabbed and the good guys win, I think. Everybody still looks unhappy and drab, the kid who coloured this would be out of all earth tones and red by the end.
Normally I give my kids the used books but in this case, this one will hit the recycle bin.

Wow. What can I add to this? Not much. Coloring books for the sophisticated reader? Weird.

Ha! That was my first "Colouring Book Theatre" experience - Awesome!

I had a friend who collected all the Dune toys and I found a bunch of them on-line for her. When I got them I was amazed at the detail quality of them, but totally baffled about why they existed. Everything about the movie Dune seems like Dino De Laurentiis was saying "on paper it doesn't makes sense - but let's give it a shot!"

I wonder if the artist thought it was a stupid colouring book to do and purposely picked the weirdest images.

Hey, maybe you'll find an "ALIEN" coloring book next. I bet you'll need 2 red crayons for the chest burster page

I Personally love this Colouring book. I had it when I was a little Kid. I was such a huge fan of the Movie. It's still one of my alltime favorites. I Loved it cause it was so dark. I was a strange little kid LOL. They had all the Dune stuff at this dollar store in a stripmall we use to visit. This brings back some Great Memories

I was in a nearby Zellers the other day and there were several Dune books by Scholastic on a table. I'm pretty sure there are these companies that basically clean out warehouses for books, VHS, etc. and re-sell them, ironically, in department stores. I know these didn't come from 'the back' as I used to work in this particular store at night. I love seeing stuff like this crop up.
Dune itself is pretty weird and not for kids. My fourth grade teacher was always trying to get me to read it, but I had the attention span of a hummingbird at the time. I looked them over later on and thought they were pretty dull.
The movie is not for kids. On the one hand, I think I would be pretty horrified if my kid was encouraged to buy products based on such a graphic and disturbing film. However, I'm also sure that my parents, nor anyone else's, knew what was in these movies. We were pretty much left to our devices, for good and for ill.

It's not a kids movie, so why bother releasing a coloring book? Makes no sense, especially not when adding dead people in the pages

I showed this to my wife and she just stared at it with disbelief. I think it is funny.
                            It's all good!
