1974 Children's Palace Toy Circular

Children's Palace is a well known Toy chain to anyone who grew up on the East Coast, these castle themed stores were eventually bought up by Child World in 1977 and ran until 1992 when they finally closed their doors, leaving many a 70s kid in mourning.

This 1974 Toy circular shows a retailer in it's prime, many fully colour pages showing all the hot toys of the day. Familiar brands like Barbie, G.I. Joe and Big Jim along with TV greats Batman, Spiderman, Sesame Street, the Planet of the Apes and Rodney Allen Rippey?

As much as I enjoy today (see Mike's thread ), I will say I think today's kids are missing out on the wonder of the toy-only store. Sure, Toys R Us is still around, but we all remember stores like this. We didn't have to search for the few toy aisles in a Walmart or Target to find those brightly colored packages. They were everywhere the moment you walked into one of these little bits of paradise.

I loved that place when I was a kid. We had one come to Colorado in the late 70's. We lived about 4 miles from it so I got to go there every week or two. It was a sad day when it closed up.

My sister had one of those hand-crank, "Knit Magic" toys.

Before I read the words, the first thing that popped into to my head was, "That looks just like a Child World I used to go to".
I wonder if it was a Children's Palace before that?
It's long gone now. The one I'm thinking of was part of (separate building, same parking lot) as the old Thruway Mall in Buffalo/Cheektowaga, NY on Walden Ave. Coincidentally just down the road from my beloved and much-missed Two Guys! (where a Wegman's now sits)

I've mentioned several times before on here that I used to loved Children's Palace. And, I still do!

We had one in Evansville. I believe that it's now a Best Buy.
