    The LJN TV Superstars Catalog

While action figure giant Mego was busy swooping up all the comic book and science fiction properties it could for their 8" action figure lines, rival toy maker LJN was going after a different sort of hero. In the seventies, LJN pursued the men in uniform namely the TV shows Emergency and The Rookies, both dramas about real life heroes, namely firefighters and policemen. The gambit paid off as LJN had a successful run with these well made action figures.

Cool playset. And I see making vehicles out of scale was common practice back then

I loves me some LJN's! I have that Rookies car. Got it from Steve Moore. It has SWAT stickers on the side. The assumption is someone replaced them at some point, but the stickers are the same scale and certainly vintage. Never could figure out if LJN released a SWAT version of the car or not.

I used to love the TV show Emergency! and had the figures.
I never knew about the playsets and truck at the time.

It would have been nice if LJN expanded the line to more then just Johnny and Roy.

I hope someday Emergency! makes it to a Plaidstallions card.

I was just watching Emergency last night on Hulu. I never knew about these figures either. The head sculpts aren't all that great. I think Mego would have done a better job.

I remember seeing the Rookies figures at the old Coast to Coast Hardware store in Sutherlin, OR. I never bought any because they didn't come with a pistol belts or weapons. The store never carried the Weapons Accessary pack.

I didn't appreciate these figures as a kid. I think, even then, I saw them as cheap Megos. I don't have any now, but they are steeped in 70's goodness.

I had (and still have) Mike from the Rookies although all his clothes and accessories disappeared without a trace. At one point I drew a beard on him to make him Brent from Beneath the POTA. The stain still remains as a pseudo 5 oclock shadow.
Then I decided to make him a ST crewmember with a spare blue shirt that was beat up so I painted "blood" on it and made him a victim. LOL
I always knew who he was as I got him new. Never had any of the others and not sure if I remember the SWAT or Emergency guys as a kid. I always thought they were neat because you could pop their feet and hands off the ball sockets and pretend they got maimed. haha
I love these LJN guys now and have quite a few but still need about 3 more to have them all. Would love to get some original accessories. I have one police hat but it's cracked.
Is that Emergency playset something unproduced? I've never seen nor heard of it.

I was born in 1974, so, I didn't realize that LJN even made "Emergency!" figures, the squad, etc until around 1990. I've been obsessed with "Emergency!" for my entire life. If I would have known about the figures as a little boy and then been able to aquire them, I would have been in seventh heaven!
