Those Takara Joes are great! The eyes are magnificent, and that secret base set is just crazy cool.

I've been trying to pick up a some of the vintage 12" Takara New Joes. These came out in 1970-1971 in Japan and the bodies were licensed from Hasbro. They came out before the Henshin Cyborg line and the 1980's Combat Joe lines. I got these two from the original owner, he's from TX. As a child his dad was in the military and they lived in Japan during the late 1960's to early 1970's.
Both of these guys came with their original Takara tagged clothes, and Takara marked brown rubber boots.
This is the Soldier and Marine.
I also got some other stuff including the carry/playset. That set is called the Front Base I believe. I also got some other pieces and weapons with them, and sever are marked Hasbro, but have some differences.
I also just got these two guys in as well, also Takara New Joes guys. Again these are vintage Takara around 1970-1971.
This is the German Tanker on the left and German Soldier on the right.
Close up of the German Tanker.
I'm loving this thing! Takara New Joe Secret Base playset!
It runs on batteries and lights up! Has a radar screen, oh my!

They are very similar to the original hard hand GiJoe honestly. If you were to take the original hard hands and heat them up into griping poses, that's almost what these are. They are a slightly softer plastic than the GiJoe ones, but not nearly as soft as the KFG hands.Comment

What a fantastic pickup, those Takara Joes are quite a find! And I've never seen those playsets before. Great find!
It must have been kind of cool being a US kid living on a base in Japan for awhile. Get a bunch of cool Japanese toys, and when you come back to the US you'd blow away your friends with toys they've never seen or even dreamed existed. Can you imagine coming back from Japan in the late 70's and showing your friends stuff like missile firing, diecast Star Wars figures, or some of the Jumbo Machinders that Mattel never released here, or a pile of Godzilla toys?Comment

I saw some of those Takara Joes in Japan a couple of years ago in very played with condition (not even close to the quality ones you have), and they were a pretty penny. Beautiful collection pieces!Comment

Thanks! I got lucky on a couple of them, purchased for reasonable money. One I got from a guy in England, and the rest came from Japan sellers. Funny thing, some of the collectors in Japan have asked me for these Takara New Joes, I guess they aren't even that common over there.Comment
