I think that, and the Ideal wooden Superman are THE Golden Age Superman items. What a great piece. Congrats!

Thanks! I got lucky on that one. It's broken at the thigh and ankle, so it was affordable.

I still need to find a nice Ideal Superman... that's my biggest want list item right now.

Is that Superman figure older than something like this?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERMAN-fig...7#ht_139wt_958

The Syroco Superman I got was made in 1942. If that statue is from the 1940s, it's at or near the same time. The difference is that the chalk/plaster statues, to the best of my knowledge, weren't licensed, they were made in significantly larger quantity, and they are of much lower quality. They're still neat and I want to get one someday.

1942 is pretty darn good for a superman license. Its probably close to impossible to find out the exact age of those plaster statues.

I havent seen any photos of an example with good paint yet.

Here he is with one of the fist attachments the kids in Japan could get for their Jumbos. This is the XX-10, and no one is exactly sure what it's supposed to be. A flame thrower possibly? It does squirt water, and pretty darn far, but it leaks (I swapped out the tubing because the original was hard and unbendable). There were all kinds of these crazy attachments, even one that telescoped down and had a little garage at the end, with a car! You can see most of them on this site: http://www.fun-to-toy.com/funtotoy_jumbo_m_xx01.html

That's awesome. Never even knew they sold seperate attachments.

Only in Japan. When Mattel brought the Jumbos over as Shogun Warriors they included one of the simpler attachments with each figure. In Japan the figures came with normal fists on both sides, and you bought the attachments to put on the figure. A lot of people don't like the look of the Shoguns because they are asymmetrical due to the special fists Mattel put on them, but I think it was a clever idea to include what American kids would have not been able to otherwise get. I guess the better, although more costly, solution would have been to include the attachments with the Shoguns and give them normal fists.
