    The 1983 Simpson's Toy Catalog

My toy buying ended in the early 80s (until I discovered flea markets) but I still used to keep an eye what was coming out. That's why I loved finding this news paper circular from Simpsons, a now long gone Canadian department store chain.

All the big names of the time are here Smurfs, He Man, G.I. Joe, Barbie in very well laid out pages that would still have kids drooling to this day. It's a great time warp back to the land of leg warmers and break dancing.

wow ... brings tears to my eyes ... I so wanted that smurf big wheel as a kid ... I never got it :(

you know I think I remember that He-Man picture ... if not that one, another one where they used more than 1 "He-Man" in the photo and it bugged the heck out of me lol lol

I was 9, and this was the first year I started spending my own money on toys. I'd get my allowance on Saturday morning and head downtown to pick up a new Joe and some candy. That lasted several years until my buying turned into window shopping and my intrest in toys turned to an intrest in comics specifically. then came saturday morning hangovers and waking up with some cheap floozy next to me. It all happens so quickly.

I was 8 in 1983, so that was a golden age of toys for me. I was just old enough to really know how to play with them well. That MOTU spread is freaking awesome! I had (and still have) every single piece there.

This represents the last of my childhood infatuation with toys, as the "golden years" of Joes ('82-'83, IMO) and He-Man, along with some of the ROTJ Star Wars toys, were the last toys I recall buying and really caring much about. By 1984/1985 I was more interested in buying guitars and records and thinking about girls!

Recently I've been getting obsessed with those '82-'83 Joes again, and seeing that awesome catalog spread is just making it worse!!

I think of these years as the golden age of toys personally, so many different lines (the variety of figures from late 70's to about '85 is truly astronomical), cartoons for just about each, comics galore!! and all at our fingertips!!!Every store had a toy section, comics were cheap and available at every convenence store, There is a wealth of things to get nostaligic about from this time period. I know most members here were "70's kids" but the 80's totally rocked.

Even though I wasn't a kid, I can appreciate and admire what went on in the eighties, especially 82-85 which had a lot of classic lines and creative ideas.

While I have a lot of happy 70s memories, I honestly don't think that my childhood was any better than an eighties kid.

Where did the Smurfs get a bus? I thought that stuff was suppose to take place in medieval times?
