It's been a while since we honoured Hasbro's Bulletman, that great attempt to make G.I. Joe a little more superheroic that sadly failed. The big B is often maligned unfairly by Joe collectors, particularly the military ones but for many of us 70s kids, he was an incredibly fun toy.
This is Bullet Man as he appeared in Mexico, produced by the Lili Ledy Company. Below are some vintage newspaper ads from when Bulletman was new.

My Mother bought this figure for me when I was a kid and had the chicken pox~
She told me it was ultra-man as he was my favorite at the time~ I always thought was Ultra-man until the 1st line of 12" Hall of fame Gi joes came out in 1995 or 6. The back of the destro box had a picture of Bulletman~
The coolest verison and true version of Bulletman is the Palioty version with the boot rockets~ He was originally released in the action man line~

Haha. Aren't mothers wonderful...the lengths they will go to to make their kids happy.
Bullet Man was HUGE to me when it was released....was really into the Adventure team during this period (Atomic Man, Intruders)....a friend of mine was playing with my Bullet man near a sewer drain and the helmet fell off and rolled right down the drain....that may have been the worst toy experience of my life...Bullet Man without his helmet is not that much fun to play with...needless to say (and this may be the only time this happened) my parents bought me a new one
Apparently Fawcett still owned their very similar Bulletman at the time. DC used him without a license in some JLA issues in the mid 70s (they had the rights to the Marvel Family characters, but not the other Fawcett heroes). I wonder what Fawcett thought of this figure? Is it possible Hasbro licensed the character or at least made some contact with Fawcett to get the okay?
Should keep this guy in mind for a PS card sometime in the future.
He's been on the drawing borad forever, just can't seem to be happy with him.
The arrival of Bulletman in my house also brought the first glimpses of me being a collector. I was five and completely in love with the character. I lost my marbles when I discovered my Mom had thrown out his packaging and promptly went through the trash to get it.
It was covered in oatmeal and all I could do was try to figure out ways to restore it. Being five, my attention was eventually drawn elsewhere but my parents must have thought I was insane.

I am a huge Marvel Family/Fawcett fan, and this figure is very close to the Fawcett Bulletman in design. I am curious if anyone ever contacted Hasbro, or vice versa. It's actually one of the best semi-based figures ever!

Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.
One of my all time Fav Joe's. I loved that line.. also too bad it came towards the end of the 12 run. I would spend hours playing with him.
On my 40th Birthday my wife bought me a Bulletman to my Delight. I also have a very unfinished custom Mego Bulletman. and an unfinished Custom Bulletgirl.
Glad to see Bulletman getting his due. I never had one as a kid, but my cousin did. I remember playing with BM at my grandmothers on the weekends over the course of a couple summers back then. We would tie a string on a post of my grandmothers house and hook BM up. We ran the string down a slightly steep hill for about 30 yards. Boy OH Boy did BM FLY down that hill. We would set up all sorts of little buildings and stick forts. Nothing could stop Bulletman! He could fly down the hill and bust that those buildings to nothing. JUST LIKE ON TV! He was beat all to heck by the next summer and soon was completely distroyed. But he served well.
I've been working on a custom Bulletman for awhile. Hope to have him done this summer. In the meantime, here's a pic of my Bulletman replacement decals. Computer die-cut, just peel and stick. I've helped many Bulletman collectors restore their figures with my decals. Just PM me for pricing.
I love Adventure Team Joes, but I never really liked the superhero/science fiction aspect. The Land, Sea, Air, Adventurer, and Man Of Action is just fine w/ me.
