Save on Model Kits

Aurora Comic Scene Models are a really happy part of my childhood seeing as my Dad sold them for a while and as a result, I had a good supply. I sucked at model building (still kinda do) and used them more as action figures, which I think a lot kids did.


The Apes kits are something I never had as a kid but I've more than made up for that now.....


My Dad's showroom, around 1974, you can see the comic scenes kits in the corner.

Loved me some Comic Scenes growing up. Had all but Robin, Cap and Hulk. Now I have all 10 MIB. I'm also having one of each professionally built and painted. Have Tarzan and Cap done. The guy is working on Superman next and has Robin and Tonto waiting in the wings. Still looking for the other 5 but I'm not in a hurry.

Never really got into the Comic Scenes when I was a kid.
I remember having the Tonto, but that was it.
I was more into the Prehistoric Scenes, Monster Scenes, the Revell Endangered Species, Pirates of the Carribean, and Hanunted Mansion stuff.

Any chance your dad carried any of the Prehistoric Scenes kits?
Would love to see any fliers with those in them.

I didn't even know they made an Evel Knievel model.
I had a few of the aurora & addar kits.
I also had some of those MPC Zap-Action pirates kits. I can't ever seem to find those anywhere. I'm surprised they weren't re-released when the movies came out. Maybe the tooling is gone?

Not sure about the tooling, but most believe because Disney would want too much for the licensing. If they would even license them at all, considering that they are based on the old ride and not the new re-vamped one.
If you want a blast from the past though, I have a section of my site devoted to those great kits.

They show up regularly on ebay, but MIB is usually around $100-$200.

Nice page. Would be cool to see videos of them in action. I saw one or two that I didn't even know they made. I never had the mansion ones, just the pirates. Seeing those kits really makes me want them again but no way I'm paying $100-$200 for one. Couldn't they release them without any Disney affiliation or markings? They look like they could just be renamed to avoid that problem. I've never been to Disneyland so I have no idea how close these are to something Disney could sue about or not. I wish whoever owns the molds will someday redo them.

In the 1970's they still had the original head on Superman's model kit. Recent reissues of the Superman kit have this ugly melonhead because I guess the mold for the original head became unusable.

I remember some of those toys, that's cool. I had that stupid "Hush Puppy Dog" Plastic bank. The one where he's crying, ha ha! Thanks, totally forgot about that, ha ha!
