Which was better? As a kid i had both lines I loved best of the west because each figure came with all the neat extras Sam Corba was one of my favs but the molded outfits took away some of the charm, The LONE RANGER line was smaller only three figure here in the U.S. but they rocked and the guns looked a lot cooler, I only had LONE RANGER and TONTO and SILVER which came with my LONE RANGER poor TONTO came by himself and ended up riding a brown best of the west horse and helping the LONE RANGER hunt down SAM CORBA and his indian pal another best of the west indian figure but i can't rember his name, I never had BUTCH CAVENDISH, Have to say all in all i had fun with both lines but the LONE RANGER line was better

I like both lines, but the Gabriel/Hubley/Marx Lone Ranger line is the best. There were also a lot of accessory packs, a western town and a few other sets. Marx made even more for this line and several more figures.

Well, even though I never owned these, but my cousins did, I'm gonna have to go w/ The Lone Ranger. You could change their clothes, and they weren't as stiff. This to me, is like comparing Buck Hunter and Safari Adventure Kim to Megos. Paint molded bodies w/ a couple of pieces of removable clothing aren't as much fun to me. The accessories are fun though. I like to use them w/ Megos and GIJoes."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Well since my Ranger and Tonto lost both of their hands pretty quickly and couldn't hold their guns, I'd have to give it to my Johnny West and Sam Cobra, hands down (or ON as it were).Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

As a child, my Best Of The West stuff got more playtime. Me and my brother loved the line very much.
As a collector today, I'm more drawn to the Lone Ranger line.
But honestly, as a collector, I don't really like either all that much. But don't listen to me, I'm prejudiced against western themed toys in general.....my heart is more aligned with sci fi/superhero/monster/weird n' goofy than with the old west.....Comment

Lone Ranger all the way!
The Marx toys were part of my early childhood, and suited the more rough-and-tumble adventures I had in the backyard and the sandbox, even the swimming pool. The molded-plastic bodies made it easier for a little kid to play hard with them and never worry about losing their clothes!
After collecting Megos for a few years, though, my standards rose in terms of detail and realism, so the first time I saw the Ranger figures and horses, I fell in love with them! I had a Butch, a Tonto, and LR & Silver, which were the prize of my toy collection. I kept them as intact as I possibly could, and was very upset when Butch lost his checkered vest!
Today I'm an avid collector of the Gabriel-Hubley line, with over 40 figures (many of them custom), 20 horses and various playsets. One day I'll post pics, I promise.Comment

I have to go with Lone Ranger. The TV show was huge for me back then. I recieved 2 Lone Rangers as a Trade/gift in grade school and had tons of fun playing with them. Lone Ranger and Big Jim worked well together in scale.
The thing that really creeped me out as a kid was the terrible face paint done on the Marx figures. Somehow this made them less real to me. The weird mold lines on the heads bothered me too. I hate to diss this toy line I now enjoy but the tan and carmels colors were not at all apealing to me. The later Color varations are awesome:Green, blue, red, and orange are all great.
My father was a Jockey and many of my family were involved in racing so there many awesome colors worn by everybody involved with Horse racing or even people who enjoyed horse riding for fun. Life wasn't a bland tan. This really confused me as a 7 year old.Comment
