Need help in trying to recall an old toy

another toy item that has been bothering me with an id for a number of years, you guys and gals came through once before.....

This toy was made during the early to mid 80's when the He-man fantasy figure type of boom was taking place. One company (whose name I cannot recall) made two items to fit in with whatever collection of your choosing (it was made more to fit the he-man type).

These two items were dinosaur-like and either wind up or battery powered toys. One being smaller (like a Stegosaurus size or some small type) and then other being larger like a Brontosaurs. I recall the Bronto one the most (this is the one I had). Both of these items were made to look like robots, they were not made to look like real monsters. The Bronto one was tannish and the figure would sit on it's back (I would say the item might have been close to 8-12" in height and maybe 8-10" long)). It had the plastic molded and made to resemble a bolted together robot. Both of these things also had a panel that folded down in the back and allowed you to see inside the toy. This was showing the gears as it moved.

I am seeing the image in my head for the boxes. I think it also had a generic type of monster name like megladon or something like that? The Bronto box had a pic of the toy in a desert like setting with some sort of "generic" fantasy figure riding on it's back. I also do not recall if it was just a slot made where you were able to fit the figure in or if it was a true seat.

Anyone recall this at all? I know they were sold at Kaybee toys (rip)

Is this it? Still don't have the name but at least it's a photo reference.

I know the one, kinda like Zoids. Even though he-man rides it, a little man inside drives it. I'm gonna try to find a picture.

          hey guys,
It was neither of the two items listed. It was also NOTHING like Zoids. It did not have the little men. Just picture a solid robot dinosaur (like something from a godzilla film, nothing too technical). Below is my wonderful artists rendition of what the box looked like

the box was not a drawing, but used the actual toy in a mock diorama (like you the kind you would see in the Sears Christmas catalogs). It would just show the toy walking on what looked like desert sand with nothing in the background except the sky and the ground in the front that you could see. Also the figure on the back resembled the main badguy from the blackstar toy line but it was not him. The slot on the back is where on this bronto type the panel could be opened to see the toys inner workings.

the smaller one was not a stegosaurus, but if I had to use a dino comparison I picked him. The smaller one was greyish (not tan like the bronto) and was some smaller thing on four legs but it had no spines or anything like that at all

Well, it reminds me of Zoids at least, and I could remember from seeing this picture before that the main He-Man sized guy was being shoffered around by a smaller figure.

I have a toy from this line (a red headed/faced demon/robot). What's very interesting to note is that it uses the same upper body and some head sculpts from the Power Warriors Beast Machine line by Revell toys, I posted a question about it here a while ago but nobody knew what the heck I was talking about. Thanks!!

It's an interesting site; but there's a LOT of stuff to go through there.

                        >I never knew they made three of them.

Once I saw the pic I remembered all three.

                        >it reminds me of Zoids at least,

Yeah, kinda. It's interesting how many "robot animal/dinosaur" toys there were at that time.

                        >and it looks to be pretty rare cause I can't find one on ebay

Hmmmm.... Y'know, back in the day they were pretty common. I saw them at Woolco, and there were usually a few of them. It's probably one of those things that nobody hung on to 'cos it was an unknown name, so now they're hard to find. I bet you'd see a whole bunch go up for sale if for some reason they got some press.

OK. Now, I remember those. However, I don't remember anyone I knew having ever had them.

It still is great to see this stuff one again. Athough I really have no room for the toys themselves, these uploaded photos on ebay and virtualtoychest have come in very handy
