Sit on the Superfriends

I never run into vintage Bean bag chairs at antique malls or toy shows, they must have just been thrown out most of the time. I'm digging this Superfriends one the most.



You almost get the whole Justice League in there including Batgirl, who was an odd choice. She also ended up on the Superfriends lunch box eventhough she never once appeared on the series. Odd how that happens...

My sister had the Donald Duck (same as in the picture above) and I had Superman (gotten from one of the Sears or Pennies catalogs). Eventually, the seams split and the little Styrofoam pellets leak. Probably the reason why there are so few around today.

OHMYGOD!!! THAT is the SF beanbag chair I've blathered on and on about for years! I had that! Even as a kid I was amazed that Batgirl and Green Arrow made it on there. It wasn't until years later that I realized that GA guested on SF during the first season.

Once the bean bag chair busted (as they all do) I begged my mom to cut out the front panel so I could keep it. She did, but it got lost somewhere along the years.

I've been looking for some reference to this for years, and found nada.

Thanks Brian!!! Now I know I'm not nuts, and it does exist (or did). And well I may still be nuts, but not in this way.

Nice SF benabag! I'm assuming this was released prior to "Challenge of the Super Friends" so it's interesting that GL is on there (along with the aforementioned Batgirl). GA and Flash had guest-starred on earlier seasons prior to "Challenge". I think the bed sheet set is from the same time period with GL, Flash and Hawkman right alongside Wendy, Marvin and....Wonder Dog.

It seems like I had that sheet set quite a bit earlier than the beanbag, although the sheets have a copyright date of 1977 on them, the very year the Wonder Twins replaced Wendy and Co.

What's really stunning about the bag is that the artwork of the main SF and Flash (and possibly Green Lantern) are dead-on the model sheets for the show. Most SF merchandise didn't do this for some reason.

I think now I actually remember that catalog page. I seem to recall having to choose between just Batman or the Super Friends. And Donald Duck looks familiar there.

One of the most common mis-colorings in comic book history. Right up there with giving Green Lantern white boots or green gloves.
