Anyone remember a plastic NASA Apollo type rocket?

I hadn't thought of this in years, but I remember that it was in stages and plastic. I believe it said NASA on it and that it was aSaturn type of rocket from the Apollo missions. I remember there being a little capsule. I don't remember for sure if it "blasted-off" of the rest of the rocket. I don't believe it was an expensive or spectacular toy. I just know I got a lot of play time out of it.

I don't expect anyone to remember it, but if you do let me know.

I'm glad at least a copule of you guys seem to remember it. Like I mentioned, I hadn't even thought of it in years, but for some reason I though of it this evening and figured I'd see if anyone else had any recollection of it. I tried to find one on ebay, but no luck, yet.

The memories of it are fuzzy, so I'd like to see one again to help jog my memories.

If it's the same one i'm remembering I had, was each section moulded in a different colour - ie Red, White and Blue ?

.. and the astronauts were moulded in white and in an eternal sitting position ?

The whole thing -- all sections connected together measured about 2-1/2 feet.

I remember something about the astronauts being similar to that and now that you mention it, I remember the sections being different colors. What say you, Spotter (or anyone else)?

As far as the size of it goes, I don't know. When you're a little kid everything seems a lot bigger.

I just had another flashback ......

Did the command modual click onto the rocket with a spring device ... and after it's connected, you can pop it off with the push of a button ?

Sounds like one I had. Can't remember all it had either. I also had a Skylab type ship from Avon I think.

I had one that sounds very similar to what you guys are describing. It was pretty inexpensive, I think it came on a big blister card when I got it. I believe I got mine around 1980?

I had one of these, I remember it well. It had white and red sections of the rocket that stacked on top of each other, engines on the bottom stage, and included a capsule that snapped on top and 'fired' using a spring mechanism as someone said. It came with three small army-men type astronauts. Mine came from Woolworths around 76-77 I would say. A very cool toy and sometimes doubled as the "doomsday bomb" in my Mego apes adventures. I have never run into one again in all my toy show and flea market travels.

When I saw the title of this post I thought that could be any one of a million toys. When you described, however, I instantaneously knew the one to which you were refering. I hadn't thought about it for a long, long time, but I remember loving that bad boy. Thanks for the flashback!

Wow, it's funny how many of you remember it, as well. I'm glad you do though. I remembered something about the 'lander/capsule' firing-off...well, I wasn't sure if it was a memory or my imagination.

BendyZaius mentioned getting this at Woolworths. I'm not sure where mine came from. I figure it was purchased at one of three places: Aryway, Woolco or KMart.

Maybe one day I (We) will at least see some good pictures of it again. Thanks guys for helping to fill in some of the blanks on what I thought was most likely an obscure toy!

I'm thinking alot of us had the same toys growing up.I remeber having one.The nose cone was spring loaded and by pushing the 2 lever type bottons just under the cone would shoot it off.The rocket has long since been lost but I still have the 2 plastic space guys. They are red molded plastic standing. Most of our toys when new came from Woolworths or GC Murphys and would have got it in the late '70s.

I seem to remember seeing those at Kresge's back in the early 70's. I never did own one though.
                            It's all good!

I'm almost certain that I got mine from K-Mart, now that you mention it.
