10% off! I'd fill my bags with Star Wars and Shogun Warriors and ride a skateboard out of the store.

Imagine the stuff you could have put on lay-away for a buck.

That trail tracker toy can be seen in action during the Star Wars Holiday Special on Google Video at 20:32. If you have the Rifftrax version, the commercial is much funnier. I too love old ads. Oh to live in the 70's again with my 21st century cash flow.

You know what I miss the most about that add? Lay-away!!! 1 dollar will hold your toys with regular payments. My mom bought everything on lay-away.... Christmas, back-to-school clothes, or anything that was on sale that wasn't in the family budget. When Wal-mart did away with lay-away it was a sad day in our house. We bought many a Christmas that way for our kids and never used the credit cards.
Don't be sorry. How would you know? You've been watching MTV all your life.

did you notice that most stores this year brought back the lay-away thing?

Dang, that Merlin was expensive even on sale. I remember that stretch octopus, too.

Yeah I still have my Merlin game. Works great! Proudly displayed in my collector room with the Mattel football and basketball hand held games. Oh yeah, and the baseball game too!

Man, my first job as a junior in high school was working at JCPenney. I was a stockboy and I remember helping in the Toy dept. at Christmas in 1977. We had an ENTIRE aisle of those Star Wars figures, each character went on his own peg. Boxes of the things, and I NEVER BOUGHT A ONE...I didn't collect toys back then, only comics! We got 15% off associate discount ...making those cost $1.52 apiece...I could be retired big time just by picking up a case or two of them back then and putting them away in the attic. Why didn't I buy them all?!!?

Oh, right, because back then I was making $2.30 an hour so a case would have set me back a week's pay!
