    Lawn Jarts

Ok, we probably all know they were banned, but were there really that many accidents?? As kids we always knew they seemed dangerous, so we didn't throw them at each other. Simple as that.
There had to be a couple good skull punctures along the way. Ouch!!
A google search said that 3 kids had been killed by them, but injuries weren't listed. They are apparently illegal to sell on ebay, but I was wondering if anyone has a set. What are they worth??
Did you have them as a kid?? Any good Lawn Jart Stories??
We used them as artillery in imaginary war games.

I have a set of these. They are out in my storage room. I've had them as long as I can remember.

Like you said being pointed and all we never threw them at each other as kids (same with darts). No good stories I'm afraid. We just played the game with them and never used them for anything else.

        >were there really that many accidents??

Only took one to have all shooting toys banned....

I like the idea that you're apparently standing right by the target ring. According to the official rules, could you win by attrition?

Oh yeah, we had those when I was a kid. I always wondered if anyone got killed by them, LOL.
I didn't know they were banned.
Figures. Government always has to stick their nose into everything because people are too lazy & stupid to make their own choices. (that's sarcasm with a hint of truth).
I don't think I'd let my kids play with them if I had a set but I see no problem with adults playing the game.

I don't know why it would get banned though when it clearly says for adults

I see these at estate auctions from time to time & they go for a couple bucks only. I've been tempted to get a set just for the heck of it. Same with croquet sets. We re-did our back yard this fall, so I may get some if I see them. The newer ones with the weighted bottoms just don't cut it.

We had Jarts when we were kids, nobody ever got punctured or brain-stabbed...we would never throw them at each other anyway. That's what rocks were for.

as a kid we got some from a yard sale ... I tossed them at trees and sometimes they'd stick ... I felt like Rambo ... I toss my knife (jart) at the evil bad dude (tree) ... oh yeah

There was on where I could take the tip off of so I would talk it off and put them back on like ol' Rambo did with his arrows in Rambo part II

I never killed anyone ... I never killed even killed a tree.

Yeah I did more damage with caps then I did with these. Had no idea that with caps,if you hit an entire roll with a rock it would catch on fire. Rock and all.

I remember playing with those, as well. I'm not sure if we owned them or knew someone who did.

We had these when I was a kid. My cousin and I used to play with them UNSUPERVISED during the summer. We were never injured. We knew enough to know that when throwing, you stay out of the target area. We even threw them straight up into the air and would step back and watch them come down. Not one injury. I always wondered why they disappeared from stores. They were great fun. Still would be I expect.

For me, Jarts = summertime fun. And speaking of caps, my cousin and I used to slam a big rock down on a whole box of 5 rolls and we'd be laugh as our ears rang for a few moments. Once we took them into a cement tunnel at the school and set off a box. It ruled. Now I have hearing loss.

                              >I never killed anyone ... I never killed even killed a tree.

                              You weren't trying hard enough....

                              >We were never injured.

People get squeamish pretty easy; especially when kids are concerned. Like I said, it only took ONE death to have ALL shooting toys banned. Not that it's okay that someone died, but that's a lot of rammification from one accident. But parents get scared and companies don't want to get sued....

Speakin' of lawn darts/Jarts. Check out this list:

My fave is still 4. You can find them on ebay sometimes.
